Hi, I've only just signed up to your great forum and need some advice - hope you are able to help.
I have recently upgraded to Deore LX Hydrolic disc brakes from the cable disc brakes which came with my bike. When i ordered the new ones i did'nt really understand about the different fitting types, and as a result ended up with splined ones for shimano hubs instead of the standard 6 bolt fitting ones.

I have still installed the calipers and levers with the old (about 4 years!) 160mm rotors. They seem to fit ok but the front rubs on the pad constantly.

Does anyone know if it is worth buying the proper shimano rotors, or will they be exactly the same size anyway, and thus still rub on one of the front pads?

Sorry to write an essay
Thanks in advance

In all likelyhood they will be the same exact size. Even if not, think of it this way: the pistons that move the pads in and out adjust themselves to deal with pad wear. The difference in thickness between rotors is a small fraction of the difference between a new set of pads and a worn set. The rubbing issue is probably just an alignment issue that should be pretty easy to fix. I'm not familiar with Shimano brakes, so I don't know exactly how to align them though.
