My name is Brandy and I had the pleasure of taking my first ride with Traylseeker. For weeks we talked about starting riding along the University of Richmond, so when our scheduled date arrived, I was so excited. I couldn't wait to get off from work and change into my comfy clothes and take a ride on my new bike with my matching helmet. This was going to be fun and easy.

When the ride began, the first hill felt great. It was so hot and stuffy outside and the air felt so good hitting my skin. I was geared up. We crossed Three Chopt and headed to the campus crossing several residential roads. When we got to Baldwin Street, I immediately changed my mind about how easy this was. It seemed like there was one hill after another at that point. Traylseeker was hitting those hills like it was NOTHING and so I was embarrassed for myself. I kept apologizing for holding him up. He turned around and smiled, "You are doing great!"

By the time we got to the campus, I had gotten off my bike and "walked it" several times. My back was drenched and my legs were aching. God, am I really that out of shape? I had never been so exicited to reach my target location and even overcome with joy by the time we arrived back home. The first thing I said upon returning was, "Next Wednesday we should ride out to Kroger". He just laughed and shook his head, "That's only up the road!" Maybe up the road is a better way to start! I guess I will set my sights on RLAG!

Wow, killer! I was hoping I'd hear about you launching off of a stair case or something being that your post is in the "Freeride" forum... Keep riding and those hills will get easier...have fun!

Brandy, Welcome to the wonderful world of mountain biking. I'm very glad your first ride was a good one. No Blood, No broken bones, no Broken bike = good ride. The first ride always has a needed recovery period afterwards. This recovery break gets shorter and shorter after each and every ride. Your fitness level will improve by leaps and bounds with every ride. Keep it up and you will be burnin up the trails in no time at all. Big smile, big hug. Welcome to the family. Regards David Marchyshyn.

I nonconcur sir! You can have your cake and eat it too. It is possible to break your bike and have a good ride. For example, I wrecked rather well at Fountain head, smashing my derailleur hanger, and was forced to ride out in single speed. You say bad ride, I say character building.

It's also possible to bleed and and have a good ride. You just have to make sure that the cooler is full or that there is a watering hole nearby to replenish your lost fluids. :)
