My girlfriend is starting to get the bug(road for now). We mostly ride the WOD and some neighborhood roads and she has progressed quite well. I have mentioned RLAG before and she now is asking if there is anything girls only for the road. She wants a 'role model'.

She is def still a beginner but wants to learn more, I don't want to mess up the mojo by taking her somewhere over her head and scaring her and to be honest I don't know the next step 'roadwise'. I am not taking her to Skyline or on the Reston Group ride yet. I think that might do more damage than good.

Help and thanks.

Liz Notter (the RLAG organizer) does a lot of road riding, she'd probably be up for a RLAG Road Ride. You might want to send her a PM because she's on vacation this week and probably won't be on the board to see this thread.

look into this.

http://hpcoaching.com/

Sue is a local cyclist and coach and her team is mostly women. They have rides out of Vienna and she would be looked after on the rides.

Sue gave a speech at the Princeton Sports' Ladies Night earlier this month. She was very motivational, I'm sure she'd be a great coach.

Well is that pay to play? Obviously the coaching is.

I think she is thinking girl led group road rides more than coaching at this point.

If she were to get a coach down the road that would be a dream of mine... :p

Not for training rides.
Sue works out of the Vienna SPOKES doing VO2 max testing and other training.
Check in there to see about weekly ride schedule. The roadracing season is coming to a close so they will have a number of regular rides going on the last half of the year.

You might try potomac peddlars for group rides. Their rides are mixed but plenty of gals show up. You will definitely get some great routes around the area.

check the ride schedule and the cue sheets.

Careful with the PPTC rides, though - I don't think I ever went on a single one that went at the pace advertised.

P I think it's a great idea for Ride Like a Girl to do a group road ride or two sometime this season.... I'll look into it when I get back. If she's interested in a women's group road ride, Princeton Sports (http://www.princetonsports.com) has a group that rides the IronGirl Columbia course (in Columbia, natch) every Tuesday at 6:15. It's low-key, all abilities welcome, and there's a support van that does sweep.

Hey wait, did someone give me a dot today? Swear there were 3 this morning? Nice :)

Thanks for all the tips so far. We are going to pop into the Vienna Spokes tonite actually.

I really wish she had a mtn bike already so she could hit all the RLAG stuff and Snot-Rs clinics etc... Seems like the infrastructure is in place for MtBing already.

My issue is finding the next step/road for her to thrive on. I want her to get the real thrill of a good road ride but am afraid to throw her in the deep end too soon. I remember when I first rode in traffic and do not want to freak her out.

Thanks All.

Craig is right about the pace of some of the rides but the routes are fantastic.

Check the cue sheet library and go on your own. The Nokesville training loop is easy and close by and not too much traffic.

Thanks for the tips. You all have been very helpful.

We have gotten alot of help so far. Jeff(I think?) at Spokes was super helpful and then I got pms from a couple others with suggestions/offers to lead her on rides, she checked the Babes on Bikes too. Its coming together.

Appreciate it.
