Rode Accotink and Wakefield today after having walked both parks.

Both are back up and running.

Accotink has one or 2 downed tree's and a little debris on the trail, but nothing major. The uphill that parallels the railroad tracks, right near the hill challenge is loose and looks like heII, but is totally doable.

Wakefield - Race course is mostly back in shape. The rollers need some work and the stream valley has one tree stump ball that I ended up walking over. The cinder trail next to the creek trail is actually in better shape than before the rain. Most of the mud has washed away.

The 2 stream crossings in the bowl are gone, but the trails themselves are fine. I'd still give the bowl trail next to 495 a couple of more days to dry.

The non race course section of the Stream Valley trail has a lot of debris, and a couple of downed tree's. The trail, for some unknown reason, seems much closer to the creek.

The CCT is wet.

Parts of the CCT I ride are always wet ...

Case you didn't already know...
... I b'leave the geologists call our creeks "meandering streams". The water is moving fastest on the outside edges of bends, and scours the bank out, taking out trees and anything else adjacent to it. Pretty cool, actually. Nothing ever stays the same. Apparently this is accellerated these days due to development. More runoff volume ....

It's a little like Mtb'ing. One has to adapt to a dynamic and always changing set of circumstances...

my 2 cents

Rode Wakefield Monday. Everything except for the creek trail was in good shape. Great work on the trail repair, the new bridge is cool but I miss the creek crossing. Some new downed trees in the woods added a few nice obstacles.

As for the creek trail a)it's really wet, I felt bad about riding it but I went slow and tried to not tear it up. b) it's lost a lot of it's flow and in a lot of places the trail disappears c) where the trail is clear watch out for slight alterations such as logs in different locations than they used to be. Watch out if you're insane enough to ride it at night because things ain't what they used to be, there are some area where you would swerve around a log, now that log has moved 6 feet to the right and you might swerve right into it. Mmm high speed nightime header, disorienting.

All in all, the trails are in decent shape. Mud where you'd expect it, but nothing too extreme. The RickyD hill-climb challenge is pretty rutted out. I discovered that when it ate my wheel allowing me to continue along in free flight. The clean(er) line is to the left as you're coming down it.There is one fallen tree that will need to be removed. Coming from the dam, up the switchback, across the paved trail that leads to Cardinal Forest, over the log, skirt the big depression on the right...when you arrive at the trail that parallels the cinder trail, there is a big a$$ tree/vine combo across the trail.
