Does anyone know the trail conditions after the storms? Would love to ride Sunday, but I don't want to go out too soon if the trails are still bad. Any update would be great.

Thx

I'm going to check it out Sat morning, see if it's rideable. I'll report back with the diagnosis.

Awesome. Thanks! I am helping out at Wakefield on Sunday before hand and wanted to see what my options were for a ride after. Thanks again!

The conditions were great. There are some small mud puddles, but nothing major. Don't do the second yellow loop, where it goes around the fields. That part won't be rideable for another 4-5 days. The trail was essentially a stream. We didn't ride it - i ran ahead along the trail to scope it out, so as not to F it up even more. When we finished our ride at 11:00am, the parking lot was full - i told who i could not to do the fields. But like i said, the rest was great - the logs and roots are extra slippery.

Have fun!

yea. my friend and i did the yellow loop but it is terrible back there.we ended up walking alot because we didnt want to damage the trail more than it is. Some people where being stupid though and the trail is damaged. There are ruts about 4 inches deep in some places due to peoples tires cutting up the trail. In most places there is short grass and brush so you can walk without getting your feet slopped up. The rest of the area is great. I didnt do the white but the orange yellow and blue trails are good with the exception for the backside of the yellow loop. Once you get out of the fields on the yellow it is fine.

The part of the white loop that goes left from the parking lot is a mess in at least two places. One of the hills still has water running down it (as of 6:30 PM Saturday). Not just a little water either. It like a stream coming down there.

yeah-we left DC yesterday around hmm 4:30 PM to go out to shaeffer..ended up driving thru that terrential downpour around exit 11..kept going just to check it out the rain storm definitly hit shaeffer and I guess the trails did not want to soak up anymore water because... We rode a little bit past the intersection where you can go left(white) or right..went left, puddles just generally wet...turned around after about 30 feet tried the other direction(yellow) same deal...did not want to damage the trails so we left.

I'd like to give the trail a go this weekend and was hoping to see if anyone had ridden it late this week?

I would like to know as well. It is a little bit of a drive for me so I did not want to waste the trip. Thanks!

I would like to know as well. It is a little bit of a drive for me so I did not want to waste the trip. Thanks! Rode Schaeffer yesterday and today... almost everything is in good shape... there are some mudholes prior to boardwalks and the trail down to the creek crossing on the White outer loop is very very muddy. Rode all the way around Yellow today to see how it fared, it's quite dry except for one muddy stretch at the cell phone tower. Recommend walking that one, it's about 10 yards long. Best of all, it looks like riders have avoided that part of the Yellow during the recent weather. New orange trail is also good, though there is a large tree down in the grassy field prior to the creek crossing.

And thanks Dave for draining the cow puddle, I got to put my shoes inside the car today, rather than tying them to the top!

Thanks Liz, you were right the trails were not in too bad of shape. Little mud here and there, but nothing to really slow you down, save for the one wet root that sent me to enjoy some ground time! Ouch!

there was a shower that hit this afternoon, but unless there's a lot more rain tonite, it should be fine for tomorrow.

also, are vehicles allowed at schaeffer? i'm thinking not. i saw what looked to be a high schooler in a jeep wrangler driving up the hill on the far side of the blue trail. he moved off to the side as i came down, but 4 x 4's plus bikes do not mix. i'm curious as to how he got in in the first place....

anyways, this could be a bad situation, such as one of the morons who rides out there w/o a helmet gets hit by billy bob who's four wheelin across the blue trail, gets killed, and there goes schaeffer.

Rode the trails 11:00 am today, all is well. Trails are in great shape. Watch out for low overhangs and some blow down/dead fall stuff that will sneak up on you, especially on the orange trail off the white loop. Bring lots of water.
