are there any scheffer ride coming up sooner??Not with Ride Like a Girl, our next ride is in August at Little Bennett, but there are rides every Thursday evening at Schaeffer (http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=341&day=2006-7-13&c=2) , with both a casual and a moderate pace. The ride generally goes from 6:30 to 8:30 every week.

awsome! What is Little Bennet like and where is it?

Little Bennett is just north of Schaeffer up 270. See the directions in the "Where to Ride" section. I'll be leading the casual ride at Little Bennett and hopefully Liz will lead a moderate ride. The trail consists of both single and double track, smooth for the most part with a few good climbs. Very little in the way of obstacles with just a few sections with roots and/or rocks.

ESS, aka bobo ryder, since you can handle Schaeffer, you'd be fine on this ride! Hope to see you out there. And I'll have an extra map for your brother if he comes out with you.

I have a silly question...

Can a guy ride like a girl? :)

I am trying to get my girlfriend interested in riding and it isn't always easy to find little groups to go out with.

If I bring my girlfriend, can a guy ride with the girls? I promise I won't talk or do anything to make anyone uncomphy, you won't even notice that I am there! :)

It is totally cool if the answer is no, I am just trolling for options.

Thanks!

Dave

I just purchased my first mountain bike and would love to ride with another group of ladies until I can get up to speed and keep up with my boyfriend. I live in the Baltimore area, are there any rides planned near me?

Try doing it just to enjoy it because YOU enjoy biking! :D

Great! Jo and I will be leading the casual group and Stacey will be leading the moderate group. Just a note, although the pace will be casual the terrain is intermediate, but we will stop often to regroup and no rider will be left behind!

ditto. I think because my first few rides were with women, I felt better about mtb in general. Guys can be great motivators and coaches, too. But chicks just tend to know each other better. Broad generalization, but true.

OK My wife has a shiny new bike and would like to get riding is there any beginner rides coming up? We're going to be riding the Seneca Greenway on the 30th of September. That's a good trail for newbies, though I would encourage her to get out and practice before then.

I'm going to work on planning a beginner-only ride for sometime in October...

a good place to start is the Ridelikeagirl.org schedule - they are mountain bike rides led generally every other weekend, Saturdays at 10am. There are always at least two groups riding: a beginner and an intermediate. A ride listed as "casual" would be a great place to start. No one is left behind and it is a great group of cyclists!

Seneca Greenway is an awesome trail. One of my favs. But if you do the whole thing, it's long and tiring. It takes me 4 hours to go Rt 355 to Damascus and back. But worth it. It's a fantastic trail. It's beginner friendly except that it's so long if you do the whole thing. There are a few hills in that section particularly around Watkins Mill that you can't help but notice, but overall, it's quite beginner friendly.

There's the Seneca Greenway on 9/30, I don't think that's too far from Schaeffer.

Hi! I just moved to Baltimore 2 weeks ago and am totally dying to get out to ride some of the trails around this area. I don't know exactly where to go where it would be worth my time to drive the distance for the ride. Also hoping someone would be interested in meeting up to ride some trails together because my last experience and only time with riding solely on a trail was horrible. If anyone is interested let me know because it would be nice to meet some local women riders around this area. :)

Its difficulty ranges quite a bit, depending on where in the park you ride though, and it is a pretty easy place to get lost in. The Frederick trails are probably the next closest to you (Gambrill, the Watershed and Greenbriar), but all three are pretty tough.

If you are looking for a moderate trail system thats worth the drive, I recommend Schaeffer Farms in Germantown. Great trails, very well marked, and it is very easy to get people to show up at.

Make sure you check out the "where to ride (http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=25)" section of the site if you haven't already.

There are also some smaller places like Robert E. Lee and the McKeldin section of Patapsco state park that are much closer to Baltimore too. Depending on where in the city you are, Fairland park is also an option to consider.

jobutler - Avalon is widely considered the best riding location in the immediate Baltimore area. I believe there is a "Ride Like A Girl" ride at Avalon either this weekend or next, but I don't see it on the calendar. When it's posted, you should make plans to go.

Loch Raven is a good place to start - hard to get lost there. Avalon is also cool if you're coming from Baltimore city. I ride Loch Raven 2-3 times a week w/ a small group at a moderate or better pace. I also ride occasionally with others at more of an advanced beginner pace. More often than not, it's all dudes, but everyone is welcome & we're all laid back - not looking to race or drop anyone (you may drop us). Check the loch raven threads under trail conditions for some info. We ride tonight at 6:15 from the church lot, one more night this week TBD, & Sunday AM. Post if interested. I'll get off your thread now.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions on where to ride. I will definitely try to check out a couple places where you guys suggest on my days off. I think my skill level is between beginner to intermediate per a friend I used to ride with. I enjoy places where there isn't too much really steep hills because hills are really hard for me to do. Not afraid to attempt any type of riding but if it is too technical I will just get off my bike for that section. Keep me posted if any one is planning on riding this weekend.

I am definitely down to ride Loch Raven this Sunday. What time do you ride on Sunday? Let me know if you are going to ride another day this week and I will try to make it. I work wed thru friday this week. I don't mind riding with guys or girls as long as you guys wait up for me every once in a while so I don't get left behind. Thanks for letting me know about some rides you do around Baltimore area.

Actually haven't made it to Loch Raven yet. It is located around Towson I think but if it isn't it is some where in the outskirts of Baltimore. I am guessing it is more a advanced beginner to intermediate riding level. Some one correct me if I am wrong because I am fairly new to mt biking for rating difficulty of trails and have never rode there yet. There are people that ride at Loch Raven every Sunday around 9:30 or 10am so you should check it out if you live around the Baltimore area.

Hi, I haven't been on this site in ages and haven't thought about my mtb in ages. DH is all fired up on mtb's again, and I'd like to dust mine off and ride again.
Is there a ride on the 4th? Is it a RLAG ride? There's nothing on the calendar that I could see.
I had to bow out of my only other attempt at a ride in May because I crashed during bike to work day, and was off the bike for a bit.
I'll check this site again.
Thanks!

It IS a RLAG ride, but it looks like it'll have to be on Sunday the 5th instead... I have a trailwork day on the 4th. I'm hoping that'll work for people. I'll put it up on the calendar soon.

If you've given me your email in the past, you'll get an announcement the Monday before the ride. (If not, PM it to me!)

Well, the only other ride going on Saturday is on the opposite end of the spectrum from Rosey in terms of terrain and location. So if anyone wants to lead a Dude ride on Saturday at 10 am at Rosey, I bet there'd be some takers......
