Ride Like a Girl and City Bikes are hosting a Trailside Repair Clinic this Tuesday, June 27th at 6:30 pm at the Chevy Chase shop (8401 Connecticut Ave, Ste 111, Chevy Chase, MD 20815, 301.652.1777, Beltway Exit 33 South).

This is a clinic for beginners: we will cover basic repairs that you may need to perform in order to get your bike back to the trailhead. These will include: Tools to bring on every ride; How to prepare for a ride; How to change a flat, including: how to unhook brakes, how to patch a tire, how to use a pump (also, Presta v. Schrader); How to fix a jammed/broken chain, how to get the chain back on the rear cassette; Tires...bent rim, broken spokes, loose spokes (also, how do you tell what's wrong when the rim is rubbing).

Please post here or let Liz [liz(at)liznotter(dot)com] know if you are coming. I'm happy to pick up people at the nearest Metro stop, which is Bethesda. You can bring your bike if you want, but it's not required.

Thanks to the ladies, gentleMAN and my lovely Vanna (punga) for showing up, despite the GREAT weather. It was fun and I always enjoy new faces. Punga's I can live without, but I digress.

The next session will be clipless-pedal-specific where I will SUCCEED in dispelling the 'you are going to fall at least once' myth of new clipless riders. I mean it. Really.

See everyone soon. Thanks again for showing up. Next time, travel by kayak is recommended.

Thanks to Mike and Liz for this treat. My wife said she had a good time and learned a lot.

But, how can you be expected to lead all of these events and be a liaison if yo cannt even open a bottle of wine. :D Did it have kryptonite on it or something? ;)

Now if you can get her into clipless Mike, you are THE Man.

Thanks again to LIZ and Mike,

Paul

Thank you Mike (and Vanna) for the very informative repair lessons. Well worth the slog thru the downpour.

That stupid wine bottle.... I haven't drunk red wine in years, so I was a little surprised to find the top was coated in something that resembled ceramic over steel. I couldn't figure out to start to open it (yes, I did have a good wine opener). Gave it a couple of whacks against a display rack, didn't make a dent. I did manage to open it, an hour into the evening, though the glass I poured had little bits of that ceramic stuff floating around in it.

As Mike mentioned, we are planning a clinic on clipless pedals. Stay tuned.

Oh, I had no idea there was trouble with the wine... Color me confused. I've been known to chew the top off of a bottle to get it open so next time, I'll be ready with the hammer.

Let's pray for better weather next time, eh?

My wife Kris was really looking forward to coming out on Tuesday, but the 2+ hour commute home just took it out of her. Plus, it was after 8 when she actually got home. Any chance of another clinic similar to this one? Perhaps open to guys and gals to fill it out some.

punga!

BTW, I know Pat Sajack, Mike. You are no Pat Sajack

HA! That was great. You know Pat Sajack has a house across from the Bull Moose, right? (Sorry. Arden reference there).

Vanna, we'll keep 'em coming. Let's schedule that next one. We can do more than pedals at the next one as well...

Pat Sajack got married where I went to high school (to someone who only graduated a few years before me)

That's why I said that. He used to come into Fuddruckers when I was working there in highschool. He lived near the half-pipe that ruptured my spleen on.
