Could someone post conditions for Schaeffer. I am interested in riding there today.

Not certain. As of Friday, Oct. 3, the area was still closed due to hurricane damage. There was supposed to be a trail maintenance day on Saturday, Oct.4, but I was unable to attend. I had hoped that there would be an update posted by someone who was there on Saturday...

Here's my unofficial view:

Despite some rain initially, there was a work day here on Saturday. We cleared off debris, fixed standing water areas, and had to cut a few new sections around some trees. Although the trail wasn't quite dry by the time we finished, we left it in an otherwise rideable condition. I think I heard one of the other crews mention a spot that looked like a lake but I don't think there was anything they were able to do with that. We haven't had any rain since then so it should be very good riding this week. Just be careful on your first post-Isabel ride. Some trees very close to the trail fell and left massive holes where they were uprooted. Too much speed on your normal line might put you in a bad situation. Ride under control until you are familiar with the new lines.

Went riding on 10-10-03. Trails are in generally good condition. Some of the new lines are a bit tricky, but keep your eyes open and all should be well. Consider taking a few minutes to do some fill-in on some of the muddy patches, as a few seem to have grown a bit recently.

Excellent conditions! Dirt was perfect - not muddy, except for a patch or two, but nice and tacky. MORE did an excellent job with post-Isabel cleanup and repair!

The woods are nice, but the fields have some really muddy spots! It was hard to be "IMBA-Correct" today...

Rode Monday and it was perfect, couple areas in the blue loop fields but not bad.

Trails in the woods are in great condition. The edges of the fields (especially near the cell tower) are really muddy, so be warned. Otherwise, excellent riding!

Rode the white loop yesterday and went and did the yellow today. White was in really great shape the yellow and blue trails were a bit muddy around the fields but otherwise were in good shape. Lots of folks on the trails today enjoying the nice weather.

Is Schaeffer open and rideable this weekend?

Schaeffer's been closed for awhile now. To make sure you can call the closure number: 301-924-1998. Trails in Gambrill are snow free though, and the riding is _SO_ much better than Schaeffer, so what are you waiting for? :D

It has been several (at least 4) days since it has rained. Is Shaeffer going to open today? The hot line had not been updated since Dec 8, but I would think it be open today......Does anybody know if it is open.....I wanted to go riding today......

Just called the hotline and it's been updated as of the 29th and says it's still closed.

I hit Clopper Lake yesterday since my other riding plan (Gambrill) fell through. Only went 2-3 miles. Some sections were fine other sections were really muddy and were getting torn up by bikes. I bailed pretty quickly and took the road back, but I still had a ton of mud on my bike.
