Anyone interested in organizing a trip up to the Shed to make some shuttle runs? Maybe we could put something together within the next couple weeks or so.
I know a couple runs but would like to learn more of whats there. I've got my new VP-Free at home that's begging to be taken out more.
I'm just starting to get my feet wet with this type of riding so keep that in mind :) I'm certainly not be the fastest down the mountain. At this point I still have this nagging tendancy regarding self preservation :)
I’m willing to bet there are other folks around here that wouldn’t mind trying something new. A day of downhill runs can even do us more XC oriented guys a lot of good. I learned more about descending over a few weeks of Shed runs with my buddy Chance than I had in a whole year of normal riding. Definitely paid off and made me a better rider…
Anyhow anyone with a bit more Free Ride / DH experience that knows the shed interested in leading a few of us XC Types around? I've done a handful of the rides on my normal trail bikes so I know it’d be doable for a lot of folks who may want to get a taste of a different style riding.
Who knows maybe you could even create some converts :)
I've got a Ford Ranger that makes a great shuttle vehicle.

I'll take pictures. :) I'll ride it too, but in slightly a different ilk than the gravity junkies. :D

I'd be down for a good shed ride. I know most of the trails and I'm pretty slow too. I probably can't make it until the weekend of the 20th. I'm booked this weekend and the Massanutten DH race is next weekend. Oh yeah and Ranger is also my truck of choice. - well Mazda actually but there's very little difference.

We are riding up there tomorrow the 20th so if anyone is interested send me a pm to let me know how many we may have. We dont plan on setting the world on fire with speed but a couple of us may pull away but will wait down the trail aways. We plan on getting there around 9 and shuttleing most of the day.

Hmmm,... shed ride or tear my knees apart on my SS at the Furnace? I'll have to ponder.
David, what bike would you be riding for shed shuttles? Just trying to figure out which trails would be appropriate.

I ride my hardtail everywhere (burley with 6" fork / aggressive trail bike geo) and get the snot beat out of me but I kinda like it that way. Jason rides his big bike and smokes my ass down the mountain everytime. But it's all good. Just depends on what you're comfortable on or can afford.
Protection is a big plus. I ride with a full face helmet plus shin and elbow pads. I would not recommend riding with out at least some pads.

Still trying to decide between shuttles and 'training'. If I shuttle, I'm on my Bullitt/Boxxer with full protective gear. I'm waiting on some of my buds still to hear plans for Saturday.

thx for compliment Dave-just what my male ego needs lol

I want to ride the Shed on any day June 5 - 9 and need a trail guide. Been there twice but that isn't near enough to keep from getting lost in the woods. Really want to show my son who is out visiting me from Idaho the Shed.
Reply back or email me at nordtere at yahoo dot com and we can set it up. He and I will be riding every day he is here. Chris Scott set him up on a sweet rental bike so just need a few folks to ride with.
I am also up for Gambrill and Patapsco during the week.

I am also up for Gambrill and Patapsco during the week.I'd be happy to have a ride with you folks...but only weekday availability is M, W, and F after 3pm. I usually take a nice, casual pace....great-grannying the ups and bombing the downs:D A snapshot of skill level and endurance might help, too... Let me know, Brian.
PS: I think we may have ended up in the wrong forum here.....tacked onto the "shuttle run" thread. If you're looking for something that's more freeride or downhill-specific, ....please be aware that with a recovering shoulder injury, I'm more XC at this point.

Thanks for the ride hookups. Looking forward to a 'three hour tour' with Brian today. Eric ( my son from Idaho, who thinks sweet single track only exists in his backyard, okay I did too up until my move here in Sept) has seen Fountainhead, Schaeffer, and Wakefield since arriving Thur afternoon.
I should have him fully converted by Sat. and repeating the mantra 'VA/MD MTB riding kicks ass'!
The DH on Thur will clinch the deal. See you at 2 at the Hamburg TH, Jason?

But....go to Gambrill, past the parking lot and take a right on Hamburg Rd. parking is on your right. Frederick Watershed is adjacent to Gambrill State Park. Trails have no blazes or signs, beware of large rock drops, and rock gardens abound.
For directions to Gambrill, off the MORE home page select 'quick links', then select the 'where to ride' link. JFoley has posted directions to all the local hot spots.
Did ya see that Brizn has posted two rides he is leading there? go to 'The Pit' forum and Frederick Watershed post. If you plan to join the ride, I suggest you rate yourself a solid 5 on the 'Ten Deadly Stages of Mountain Biking' scale link found under 'Club News' posted by Jon Walsh. Otherwise, you and the rest of the group may be sad by the end of the several hour adventure.

I'll be riding with the group Thursday afternoon. Though I may be a tad late as usual for those who know me.
Crashmore...
Unless you've specifically decided to meet JYETI at the Hamburg trailhead the meeting spot tomorrow is a bit different. Assuming you're coming from the south and heading north up Gambril Park Rd there will be a gravel parking lot on your right about 1/2 mile before the Hamburg Rd intersection. So basically the same directions only if you get to Hamburg Rd you've gone too far. The parking lot is across from a big antenna on the other side of the road.
If we can't find you we'll send out a search party to the other spot on Hamburg Rd. I've only ridden there a few times but this is what people tell me so I figured I would pass on the information because I got lost once and looked for peple at the Hamburg trailhead once.
See you tomorrow.

Hopefully everyone is set to meet at the cell tower at or around 2. I am planning on riding as long as possible so if some of you get there later just wait and we will be back up to the top shortly. I have a silver dodge p/u and an orange yeti asx. This will be a fun ride so hope to see you all there.
