Hi,

I'm relatively new to mtbiking and this sounds like a great way to break in my new bike (and possibly my arse). I went out to Gambrill late last summer and realized that I'm not ready for the big time. I had fun, though, and now want to do it with a bit more finesse.

Love to see if anyone else is headed over to Wakefield next month.

Hi Mo,

I'm doing the May series at the Bike Lane. I think we rode together at Gambrill this winter, with Chris?

Also, we're starting a series of women's rides, including one at the Shed on May 13 (NOT led by me!). The schedule and all the info is at: http://www.ridelikeagirl.org.

Hi Mo, I am seriously considering the clinics, just waiting to make sure no business travel interferes. Where will you be commuting from? I don't have a car and live & work in D.C. So, I plan to rent a car for the first session, and drive out of D.C. with the rest of the world. I'm hoping I'll meet someone from D.C. at the clinic to carpool with for the other two classes??? Liz mentioned picking up from Bethesda or Vienna, but no bikes on the metro during rush hour (sigh).

Hi, Mo! I'm doing the April clinic, and I wish it had been around when I'd first started mountain biking a couple of years ago. The women teaching it are kind and patient and knowledgeable, and the other women taking the clinic are fun and non-judgemental. I'm a bit skittish still due to a fall a few years ago, and this clinic is good for confidence-building. I can't wait for this week's session!

Hey there,

I'm coming from work in College Park. I could pick you up in D.C. on my way over the bridge. Drop me an email and we can coordinate, if you like. I'll have an Accord with a bike rack on back.

Hey Liz,

I do know Chris (Rumohr, right?), but I don't think it was me doing winter riding. I'm a weather wuss and don't venture on a bike much before April. Thanks so much for the girl rides link. I've always wanted to get a group like together. I'll definitely look for you at the Bike Lane course and I hope to see you on some of your rides.

It looks like the May clinic is full. Darn. Hopefully the Bike Lane will do more of them this summer. I still need some practice and tips for not endo-ing over logs.

Yes, the clinics filled up really fast! But The Bike Lane will be planning others later in the summer and throughout the fall. Hopefully, after the clinics end in late May we will start a regular Wednesday Night Women's Ride at Wakefield at the same time. I will be getting back into pre baby shape in June and will need all the help I can get!

Let me know when you set a date for those, I can put them on the RLAG website, if you like, and we can post them as a stickie here. I've already had riders contact me asking about weekday rides.

Whoo-ha! I learned so much in what felt like such a short time this evening, worth the 1 1/2 hr-rush hour drive from College Park. Laura, Anne and company (I'm sorry, I didn't remember all of the Bike Lane names) were patient, thorough, funny, patient and encouraging. Liz, I think I missed putting your face and name together. I will make a point to do so next Wednesday.

What a confidence booster. Thanks ladies. I'm a happy, mud-splattered, smelly girl! See you next week.

1.5 hours?!?! Lemme guess, you went over the top of the Beltway? That's plain ol' crazy! :p

Next time (if you did indeed go over the top), go south on the Beltway and over the Woodrow Wilson bridge. Actually, I take Paint Branch Pkwy, to Kenilworth Ave, then pop onto the Beltway. At most it takes me 45 minutes. Usually it takes me about 30-35 coming from College Park.

Drevil man, now you tell me! Thanks for the tip. I'd avoided the bridge 'cause I thought it might be worse with the construction. Next Wednesday I'll try your Paint Branch route. Where are you on campus?

I thought of it this way, though: beautiful evening, sunroof open, good tunes and a treat at the end. I have to admit that I smiled through a lot of the car ride.

Off-campus, nestled betwixt the airport and the Metro station.

There sometimes is a slight slowup when approaching Route 50 (exit 19), but then it gets flowing after that. The distance is slightly further when going south on the Beltway, but it is not consistently hellacious as the American Legion bridge or the top of the Beltway.

Again, helmets off to Anne, Laura, Julie, Liz and Tracy for cramming into three nights a lot of fun and skills. You women make learning fun and falling almost a badge of honor. Can't wait to meet up with you guys on a trail. I'll be the little blur cackling with delight.

Many many thanks to MORE and the Bike Lane for hosting the clinic and Laura, Tracy and Julie for their excellent instruction last night (I was just tagging along). And those of you who took the clinic, you are the bravest group I've ever seen. Keep it up! Last night another rider saw our rather large group and said, Wow, you guys are going to take over. Seattle said, hey, we already have!
