Oy folks.
We rode Black Hill Regional Park on Saturday and it is in AWESOME shape. The one big rutted climb out of the creek bed was actually in very good shape. I've only seen it this dry once or twice and that was in the middle of summer.
If you're in Germantown and need an evening spin before dark, go ahead and hit up Black Hill. Add in a little Hoyles Mill Connector if you want to add to the mileage. It is also in perfect shape.

Home Base at Schaffer. 1:20 PM departure. Went out the lot, crossed the street and headed to the soccerplex. Rock Gardens were hard on your third ring and pedals. At this point, you were cruising and comitted.
Crossed the creek. Probably at the 6 inch deep level. The creek crossing was low, if you find it just right. Disc brakes got wet and my BB has some water lodged in there somewhere. Saw about 10 monarch butterflys feasting on something right at the crossing.
Hoyles mill connector was nice. Up and down. Slow. Ran into a box turtle. Moved that buddy out of harms way. Up and down. Went through Boyds, behind the school, under the commuter tracks, waved at a fisherman and kept going. Singletrack to Black Hills. Yes!
Boat launch up and follow the Bird Houses and through the field of those buttercup flowers. Rode the Cabin Branch Trail and crossed the park entrance road to the Hard Rock Trail. Rode the Hard Rock Trail and turned around. Fast smooth with plenty of rocks. Dry. Only saw 2 people walking thier dogs at Black Hills.
Made my way out of Black Hills toward the Hoyles Mill.
Got back to home base Schaffer at 4:30 PM. Only one at the lot. What a feeling~!!!!!! Mind you.. this was Wednesday afternoon before the rush. :)

Did you happen to notice if the big tree was still laying accross the Black Hills Trail just north of the Utility easement? I sent an e-mail to Bob Turnbull about several downed trees a couple of weeks ago. All but that one were cut and cleared as of last Wednesday.
