Well I am sure many people have read about the trail conditions at Schaffer. One piece of advicestay off the yellow trail. I went on it and fell the mud was so deer half my handel bar went under.
It is also really bad right around where the cell tower is.

This doesn't have to do with the weather. DON'T BIKE ON THE RED TRAIL. When I went on it at first it seemed fine but then it was so over grown that you can't even see where the trail used to be.

The blue trail and some parts of the white trail is fine. :) :) :)

Checked out Schaeffer trails this morning (Thursday 6/26) and the mud holes are finally beginning to firm up, although there are still a few sections of bad mud to avoid or walk. The fields were just worked this week, so the yellow trail around the back field is a mess, best to avoid it for a while yet. White and pink loops were good except for the drop down to the steam crossing/bridge section which is still muck. Enjoy the sunshine!!

Anyone check it out Monday? Is it much better than it was early last week? I'd like to ride for a couple-three hours and Schaeffer is good for that without beating the heck out of me like Gambrill does. Ow, my back!

Any alternatives close to Frederick that are dry, relatively smooth, and with lots of miles that I should check out?

Shaeffer on Sunday was great, but with the downpour last night, it must not be so great anymore

You are quite correct Annelbv, it isn't so great anymore. I hadn't realized that area got significant rain last night. With the ground already saturated there was apparently nowhere for it to go. I went out to Schaeffer with no real expectations of it being dry, but thought I'd give it a look. I got no farther than 100 ft. on the white trail before encountering standing water, and saw more down the trail. Turned around and went down the the yellow trail a hundred yards or so, but it was quite muddy too. So I turned around and went back home to ride on the road. Unfortunately for the trail plenty of people had already been riding it and the parking lot was filling up as I was leaving. :(
