Would you wear muddy shoes on your mom's just mopped kitchen floor? Would you walk in your freshly planted garden? Would you walk barefoot on broken glass? No? Well then why would you mountain bike on muddy, wet trails? Do you not know it is wrong, or do you just not care about the trails you ride on? As a club that promotes trail advocacy and does an awful lot of work building and keeping trails in shape, it would be a sad thing if a club member didn't know when to not ride a certain trail. Yes, we have all ridden on trails that were marginally wet or muddy and told ourselves it was OK, even when we knew better. But with the unbelievable amounts of rain we have had this Spring, trails really are in poor shape in some spots. Take a look at some of the pictures of trail sections from Wakefield taken on Monday afternoon. And please stay off sections of trail that look this way. Riding around a mud-hole doesn't help, it just makes the mud-hole bigger as evidenced in the pictures. If you see someone riding on trails like this, tell them why it's wrong and ask them to come out and do some trail maintenance time to learn why for themselves.
