I would like to ride there tomorrow. Has anybody been out to Wakefield or Accotink since Monday when I rode last?

As of yesterday Accotink was rideable with a few bad spots in that open area right before you get to the Carrleigh Parkway overpass. My suggestion is to turn around before you get there. The long steep uphill by the tracks was muddy where they did the work on the last trail day and the Gas Line Easement double track climb was a little YUCKY.

At Wakefield, phase I and the bowl were rideable. Although I was told that the new S trail in the bowl had some power slides going at the turns. We didn't ride the bowl last night but I spoke to someone who did. Most of the stream valley trail was OK with the normal bad spots. Again I recommend turning around at that back corner by the CCT.

PLEASE STAY OUT OF PHASE II. I keep running into people who are "Just seeing how bad it is". Trust me - It's BAD.

Thanks for the update. Those are the same areas that were wet on Monday before the rain.

Just so frustrating. Skies clear up for a few days. Get pumped because the trails are drying out, then it rains again.

Nothing really drys this time of year, it is either frozen and rideable or thawed and not. Just get up early when its sub freezing and ride, tommorrow will be good til about 0930.

I am always amazed how many people see sun and 45 degrees and think the trails are fine, thats actually the worst time unless its actually raining.

Cold is our friend. When its 45-50 hit the road, get some mileage, build the base.

Is there any MORE published map of Wakefield/Accotink showing all of the new features, trails etc. correctly labeled?

Additional info might be included such as what stays wet and what dries out...

I had to go into Wakefield today to inventory our gravel and move some rock. I hopped onto my SS (The multi didn't make it all the way home from Gambril's ride yesterday) and rode over. The frost from the last 2 nights and the warm weather today has left both Accotink and Wakefield not very rideable. I walked my bike out of Accotink and I also walked off of Phase I. On the lighter side, the cinder around Accotink and Wakefield is not wet and is a good way to get the legs spinning.

Rode there Friday morning.

Accotink was in pretty good shape. Water/mud was only in the lowest places.

The Bowl was a little messy on the long downhill closest to the ballfield. The track by 495 was pertty wet at the bottom too.

I will stay out of the bowl from now until it dries out. (JUNE :( )

Just returned from a Wake-otink ride.

Accotink is in great shape. The usual suspects, such as the dip on the powerline side of the gas company, are a bit sloppy.

Mixing bowl at Wakefield is also in great shape.

Not sure of the proper names, but here we go:

- Entering the trails at the pedestrian overpass, riding toward the power station: golden

- Trail along power station fence: not bad until you hit the corner at the bottom...very sloppy until you cross the stream then decent with a couple of sloppy spots

- Coming off of the boardwalk in to the woods is ok, with just a bit of slop where the pallet is (was, it's been crushed).

Phase I is in nice shape...a little sketchy on the switchbacks coming down the powerline (very slick on top, but firm underneath).

The rest of the powerline (Phase II?), or at least the little bit of it I saw was messy. I read that it was in ok shape, but I'm guessing it may have thawed a bit more since that last report. I walked through the first muddy section thinking it would get better, but it didn't. I cut across on foot on one of the old trails to ride back to the top, but was spinning out more than grabbing, so walked back up. I'd bypass this section for a while.

Just finished wakefield a few hours ago. the part near the fireroad and the recycling bins untill the powerstation are great. past the powerstation is thick black deep muck untill the boardwalks. crossing the field to the other side was ok. the trails under the trees near the creek are golden. the trails under the powerlines between the pumptrack like section and the end of the park are muddy on top but firm about 1/2-1 inch below. the switchbacks are slick but if you go slow ull be fine. bowl was very leaf covered and wasnt as fun as the rest.

As of 1/30/06 Phase I is in great Shape, the bowl is leaf covered but in good shape. The creek stuff is ok with the usual bad spots. Phase II under the powerlines is greasey and I'd say it needs to dry out some, espcially after all this rain today.

As of 1/31/06, things are going to be very different for a few days. There was a nice, steady rain going on all morning at the house. My guess is that tonight is going to be too squishy to ride.

I'm thinking about riding wakefield/accotink tomorrow around 2:30(if anyone is interested). Can anyone tell me what kind of shape the trails are in?

Thanks,

Began ride at 0830 this morning. Rode Wakefield first for about an hour. Fast and frozen. It was the first time I was able to ride the powerline section since it was fixed up. AWESOME!!! :) The spots in the sun started to get a little mushy so we went to Accotink and rode for about another hour and a half. Trails were in awesome shape there. Lots of runners and walkers on the fire road so proceed with caution and courtesy. Finished up with the bowl and it was in good shape as well. We rode until about 1130.

Rode with Craig tonight and I dare say things looked pretty good out there! We didn't hit Phase II, but did everything else. Very few wet spots and things were grippy, if a little too tacky in some places. If the rain holds off tomorrow, Thursday night's ride should be nice.
