I took off work a little early today and did a spin around the FH loop. Perfect day. Perfect temps. Beautiful leaves. Dry trail. Awesome.

29 squirrels. I counted 'em. 29 little chitterboxes to make my ride even more enjoyable. ... and 4 deer.

During the summer pokey rides, I barely ever saw one squirrel, so it was fun to see so many out chasing each other and, presumably burying hickory nuts, walnuts, and acorns.

Animals are getting more active now for winter preps, squirrels are stocking up on food and the deer are looking/courting for a mate since it is pre-rut time for them. I would advise all to be careful in the next month if you make early morning rides due to the deer in rut, they seem more to not pay attention to their surroundings and take all as a threat. Very unpredictable.

I only have 2 weeks left in the area b4 i depart for hawaii, for hopefully the rest of my life, but first it is off to Ohio for deer season. Wooohoooo.

Squirrels tend to be omnipresent at Little Bennett, Black Hills and the Seneca Greenway. I spotted a Black Squirrel on Lower Magruder between Log House Road and Damascus Regional Park. That's the first one I've seen around here. It only took 100 years for them to get from the National Zoo to here. Sometimes it seems like it takes just as long to drive :p

I will be on Oahu, it is good fun, everyone should at least visit the islands in their life. Mountain biking is ok there. Alot of resistance from other people. That is what i will miss the most. This area has so much too offer in the mountain biking world. I hope i can get one more ride in before i leave. I will be out of town this weekend, so i only have next weekend left then i am gone. :(

I've only been to Hawaii once. I spent a week or so caving on the Big Island, camping on the land of a caver who bought 3 acres in a subdivision. A mattress on the floor inside a house would have been luxury. Though I then got to stay in the spare room of a friend on Oahu when we went scuba diving. That was pretty darn nice, too. I had a great time out there.
