If you have a little time in the evening of Oct 27, and want to hear what's in store for the future of parks in Montgomery County, and feel like speaking about the need for more existing and future trails open to bikes, please see below. The time is set for 7:30pm. You can register beforehand (best) or at the door to speak. You could just listen and consider writing a letter based on what you heard. Bottom line: this is a opportunity to participate in the planning process of the future of parks in Montgomery County. The plan is comprehensive. Trails are just one aspect of the plan.

PUBLIC INVITED TO TESTIFY ON THE FUTURE OF PARKS AND OPEN SPACE IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY
The Montgomery County Planning Board invites members of the community to testify at a public hearing on the proposed 2005 Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan (LPPRP), Thursday, October 27, time to be determined, in The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Auditorium, 8787 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910. The Plan makes recommendations for future needs for recreation facilities and open space to the year 2020.To sign up in advance to speak, those interested may call 301-495-4600.
Copies of the proposed plan are available online at www.mcparkandplanning.org/ppra and at the M-NCPPC Information Counter 8787 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring and at M-NCPPC's Parkside Headquarters, 9500 Brunett Avenue, Silver Spring.
The 2005 Land Preservation Parks, and Recreation Plan is mandated by the Maryland Department of Planning for eligibility for Program Open Space Grant funding. The proposed Plan has four primary sections including:
Recreation, Parks and Open Space that discusses planning for parks, open space, recreation facilities, and parkland acquisition, including quantitative analysis of needs for future facilities through the year 2020.
Agricultural Land Preservation that provides a description of the Agricultural Preservation Programs and a summary of needed new initiatives; and
Natural Resource Conservation that discusses current goals and implementation programs for conservation of natural resource lands and a summary of needed improvements, and
Cultural Resource Conservation that includes information on historic and archaeological resources and needed improvements.
After the October 27 public hearing, the staff will review all public input and recommend changes to the proposed plan for the Planning Board’s deliberations at a worksession tentatively scheduled for December 1. By the end of the year, the Planning Board will send its final plan to send to the State Department of Planning. The Planning Board Agenda http:www.mc-mncppc.org/board/agenda will be available on October 24, 2005, giving a time for the public hearing and a link to the staff report.
