I keep seeing a bumper sticker on cars in the metro area that I don't understand. I hope it's not one that is not family friendly, so I'd be in trouble for asking on the MORE site.

It's a yellow equal sign on a blue square. I saw at least two of them today. The one in a parking lot had nothing else on it. The one with tiny writing was on a vehicle on I-66 and I couldn't read it while moving at 70.

Does anyone know what it symbolizes? I'm assuming it's not the secret symbol representing mathematicians.

OK - Here's one for you. I see a sticker with what looks like a pork pie hat with two eyes under it looking off one direction. That, or a little, beetle-like car with wheels off-center. It's blue on a white background. You could mistake it for a parking permit, but it's not one.

I heard somewhere that the 'two eyes under the pork pie hat' bumper sticker is used by park-and-ride drivers. It give police the permission to stop any car with the sticker on Mon-Fri during working hours. It's a car theft prevention deal.

(drats, my first post and it isn't even mtb related)

Sorry couldn't resist that one.You are always welcome to poke good natured fun at me! :)

However, now that you've put my on the defensive, I must explain, that yes, I did google it before posting the message. I typed in "equal bumper sticker." I got back a bunch of equal rights amendments websites. Those weren't it. Rather than spend a lot of time testing out a slew (or is that slough---guess I ought to google it  ) of different words and clicking on a bunch of possible sites, I went to my *friends* at MORE!

And see, it fostered a bit of discussion and other people were able to ask related question. And everyone came out happy. Except you...... :p ;) :)

not to be confused with this similar symbol,
http://www.military-graphics.com/DELTA.png

which is the navy signal flag Delta, which means "I am maneuvering with difficulty; keep clear," but would however, make a good bumper sticker for more than a few drivers on the beltway.

P.S. I can't take credit for making this connection, I found this on someone elses blog when I googled the equal sign sticker a month ago

Quite obviously Jason hasn't been talking to me much lately. That would have given him the opportunity much sooner. ;)

Hmm, it seems a little weird that a secret symbol would be the human rights symbol. Cavers have their "secret" bats sticker that identifies them. We don't care if anyone knows it's the caver symbol because we're only trying to communicate to ourselves. But it seems like human rights are something folk are trying to spread. Ergo, it's something you'd think they'd have a bumper sticker that doesn't require a lot of work for others to figure out. Oh well, guess I just don't believe in human rights.... Errrr. That's not what I meant! :p

So then, the spelunkers (cavers) bumper sticker, is that the one that is orange with a black bat flying w/ spread wings?
