Wondering if anyone has suggestions for a relatively close weekend trip with my wife who is about is uninterested in bikes as you can get. Looking for something within 3-hours of nova, where I can ride and she can go to the spa.
Bonus points if there are other things to do and really good food. We have young twins and don't get away too much. I'm hoping to sell this as a nice weekend, sans twins, with a little biking on the side.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Canaan Valley.
She would have to like nature, but she doesn't have to like biking.

Danger! Danger Will Robinson!
I'd err on the side of full disclosure when selling anything to the wife, lest ye be accused of bait and switch.....

Thanks for the suggestions.Richmond has plenty to offer. The JRPS trails will keep you busy on your bike and she can go do her thing.

That's pretty funny, I'll have to remember to close with "and I'll see you on Sunday".

Seems to me Jim Thorpe has been reported as fitting that bill.

Beauty of the town is that it looks just like it did in 1900. You can walk out your front door and find shops and restaurants. I loved it so much I bought a house there. You can access a number of trails without driving to them. There a rail trail that starts in town.
See http://www.jimthorpe.org/. My neighbor also has a guest house (http://www.marysjimthorpe.com/) and runs a company that does tours (http://www.thejtx.com/). See http://www.innjt.com/ for the fancier accommodations. All these sights have links to various activities.
The Opera House has regular shows that are well worth your time... http://mauchchunkoperahouse.com/index.html.
If you have any questions, let me know. My partner and I will be in JT most weekends in July.

If you have the coin, the Greenbrier resort (http://www.greenbrier.com/#). Then you couild ride Douthat.
On the more affordable side, Berkley Springs WV (http://www.berkeleysprings.com/) Cacapon is right there, and Greenridge SF in MD is close.

I've always wanted to stay here at the Homestead: http://www.thehomestead.com/
Very close to Douthat. Not horrible pricewise.
If price is a concern, you could stay nearby in Warm Springs: http://www.gristmillsquare.com/
Looks OK and they still have the massage, hot stone, aromatherapy, nacho cheese high colonics, etc. Well, maybe not the last one. But if you're into a cheap soak you could then make your way over to the Jefferson Pools, WAPO piece here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/travel/escapes/032499.htm. Then again you might also check into what soaking at the Homestead costs--I think I saw it's like $17 and it looks really nice.
Heck, if you wanted to get crazy, you could probably ride to Douthat via Little Mare, or get dropped off there and ride back to the Inn! Maybe even an epic out and back!!! Meanwhile wifey gets the pampering she deserves while you sample the buffed goodness of Douthat.

Ahhm just read the fine print: they're referring to the Jefferson Pools 5 miles away--see the WAPO article. So, looks like you can;t soak at the Homestead proper.
Oh, and here's the path you'd take to ride to Douthat from the Springs--WARNING--some road, could be dangerous., but looks somewhat doable.

Thorpe rocks but another place to consider is the resort at rocky gap md. It is nice, has spa treatment and a beach at the lake and its good for a quick spin of some nice trails for you, the town of cumberland is not to far away with some nice restaraunts and a couple quirky stores.

Another good option near Douthat is Fort Lewis Lodge. Beautiful setting and great chow. It's a nice B&B so a little pricey. Hiking, fishing etc on site. Even if you don't stay there, you can stop by for dinner.
