Friday's Clip & Ride was very successful. We started out with 8 volunteers and ended the day at 3:30 with two. There was a LOT more clipping than riding. The ticks in the meadow areas were relentless. I think the OFF delayed them from attaching for the most part, but I did find an unattached deer tick nymph the size of a pinhead on my foot after my shower.
Here's what the group accomplished on Friday
-Gave blood to the trail gods in multiple ways (thorns and a crash)
-Trimmed the briers on the Giles Run Trail from the parking lot to the creek crossing
-Trimmed the briers on both trails that head down to down to the Slaughterhouse from the CCT
-Beat back the jungle on the back side of the Slaughterhouse Loop
-Trimmed the briers on the entire Pasture Loop
-Trimmed the briers and big thistle on most of the Dairy Barn Loop. Someone had done a basic clipping of the big stuff on the gauntlet on the back side within the last couple of days, but we got pretty aggressive with finishing it off.
Being anal, I went back on Saturday afternoon and hit the Apple Orchard Loop and the rest of the Giles Run Trail. That leaves the meadow portion of the Workhouse Loop and the short section of the Diary Barn Loop that connects the Pasture Loop. Fortunately, these are not big problem areas. I suspect they will be trimmed by someone before next weekend.
Enjoy.
