Hello Everyone--
The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy, MORE, and REI have been putting on an biannual Trail Work Day with a very special 2.5 session design and is limited to 40 volunteers.
The day starts at 9:30am, where the group is split into two groups of 20 volunteers. One group will build rolling grade dips (RGDs) on a piece of fire road to help mitigate erosion, while the other group tours the area to learn about invasive plant species while removing them and replacing them with native species with a professor of biology from CCCB. This session will last for 2 hours at which time we will congregate down by the water and have lunch while listening to a presentation on the municipal water supply. Following lunch, both groups will switch roles, and work until 2:30pm.
Now, this is a special opportunity, because the GVC normally recruits the volunteers and has only received 5 total so far. If we could save the day and produce an additional 35 volunteers, it would be great! The GVC has been an important supporter of our access at Loch Raven, so let's let them know we appreciate that! Also, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the reservoir, as well as invasive species which threaten our native forests.
The flyer for the event can be downloaded here (http://www.blumdesignwerks.com/trans/flyer.doc), it contains more details on what to bring and expect.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Peggy Perry, Program Director of Gunpowder Valley Conservancy at 410-668-0118 or pperry@gunpowderfalls.org by May 22 at the latest.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Dave Blum
