I'm cobbling together a kick-around SS and would like to use a Mavic 317 with some XT V-brakes. Why? Because I don't want to build a new wheel with this one lying around and the frame has no disc posts. Visually, I can't see the difference between the disc and non disc 317 profile and compared to my higher end wheels there is plenty of pad surface. I'm not really concerned about premature wear since the wheel was gathering dust anyway- just want to make sure that I'm not risking catastrophic rim failure.
