Spring 2010 Trailwork Days: Saturday March 6; Saturday, April 17; Saturday September 18
Description
Conway-Robinson Memorial State Forest is a small tract between Gainesville and the Manassas Nat'l Battlefield. It's a flat park with about 6.5 miles of single & double track with more trails on the way.
It's a multi-use place that sees bikers, hikers, equestrians, x-c skiers, and others. For mountain biking, it's a great place for beginners, kids, casual riders, single-speeders, log-hoppers, and hopefully soon, freeriders. And in winter, with a few inches of snow, it's a more challenging spot and is rideable when other, steeper places like Fountainhead, Schaeffer and Wakefield aren't (yes, it's not even as hilly as Wakefield).
Notes: The area is maintained by MORE, the PW County Mountain Bike Police Patrol, The Friends of Conway, and other interested groups. In 2003, all of the trails were blazed and a new map created. Trail signage may be on the way soon.
Also on the way are some freeride features. Log rides, drops, ramps, skinnies, and other technical trail challenges are being discussed (using IMBA and Forest guidelines). So, even though it's small and flat, it'll be a good place to get your skills on and not have a long drive to the mountains.
Directions
Take I66 west to the 2nd US29 exit North. Turn right at the first intersection onto US29 heading North. Go about 1/4 mile and turn left into the parking lot. The trailhead is direct in front of the parking area.
