5/08/05 >> I finally made it out to Woodstock Rd. All the trails I saw were very dry. Conditions are about as good as they are gonna get. I couldn't help but notice that the equestrians have started to create new by-passes for many of the badly worn/eroded trails simply by riding around the problem area. It is also amazing what they will do to by-pass a dead-fall. Enough said: After last weeks' foray at Belmont farms, I would feel too hypocritical to comment futher. Still, most of the trails were in pretty good shape, considering.
On the trail that parallels the stream that runs beside a *pumping station(?)...Lots of heavy dead-fall on this trail, I think I counted 3 or 4 big ones on my way toward the quarry pool...some were really hard to climb over. No horses on this trail! If anyone has a chain saw and would like to help clear this trail, I'd be glad to help. It was a good day to ride. I did about two loops.

I've ridden the backside of McKeldin several times, but I've always accessed it by crossing the stream from the main park. I'm not familiar with Woodstock Road. How do you get to it, and where do you park to access the trails?

6/01/05 >> From the Marriotsville Rd. exit off of Rt. 70 >> go north on Marriotsville Rd. >. make a right on Rt. 99 , Old Frederick Rd. >> make left on Woodstock Rd.>> take Woodstock all the way down and pass over the RR tracks. Park on the other side of the bridge by the gate on the left. As you mentioned, you can also access the area from McKeldin by crossing the stream although it is quite high right now.

We had our car broken into over by the gate. The parking lot has more people traffic, probably deters the theives over there.

6/02/05 >> Yeah, I suppose your right about that. I returned to my car once just before it got dark and found a man hanging around my car which I had parked by the gate. He had a very shady look about him...one of the locals probably. I gave him a dirty look and he moved on.

The other option ( as mentioned ) is to park by the Inn but seeing that it's a Motorcycle bar/hang out I always felt like a geek if there were any bikers (Motorcyclist) hanging around. Not that anyone ever bothered me there I just hate having to change clothes...etc...with people (maybe even drunk ones) hanging around gawking at me.

It should be noted that parking at the gate is limited anyway. Maybe room for a couple cars unless you don't mind parking along the road. Another option is to park at the top of the hill (north side) where there's a private school or daycare ctr. on the corner. As long as they're closed, I don't think anyone would care if you park there. ( note: I've seen people with horse trailers park in this lot ) Another option would be to park in the church parking lot across from the private school. Of course on Sundays that might not be such a good idea.
