Help in choosing

So I went out and tested a few bikes today. Really enjoyed the Giant Rainier and the Gary Fisher Marlin. I am new to the sport(only been serious for about 6 months) but am moving into it quickly so I need a good durable bike. Something that I can use for at least a couple of years. I ride mostly over around wakefield/accotink and fountainhead. I currently am riding a 2001 Gary Fisher Marlin. I dont want to spend more than $800. What do you think? Any experience with either of these bikes? Thanks for the help.

I ride a Gary Fisher Big Sur on my own time; when I ride at work, it's usually a Specialized Stump Jumper. I like the Fisher... but I've spent more fun time on it, and it's set up for me, with no one messing with it.

But...you do know that there are answers to you on the original thread you started, right?
