Has anyone been to FH lately? I am considering a dawn ride on Wednesday, since it should be frozen and was wondering how much snow remains on the trail.
Thanks.

I live across the resevoir from FH and it has been frozen every day this week in the morning. Not sure how clear the trail will be with so much shade I imagine a good amount of snow could still be in there.

If Laurel Hill is any indication, there isn't much snow on the trail. FH is more hilly... there might be some more protected areas.

so.... are trails at laurel hill in decent shape for riding, or am I reading too much into your post?

Laurel Hill is lovely. There are a few soft spots.... only really bad spot is a 10' section at the beginning of Power Station. Stay off of Giles Run entirely. Enjoy your ride.
Hugs and Kisses.

Fountain Head is currently frozen and clear of snow. Good for a ride if it stays cold. I had the Nokians on, but they were way overkill on the 97% clear trail.

The only exceptions to the above were the snow and ice on the left turn past Salamander Switchback and Loop 6 (Formally the Dead END Loop). Loop 6 was just plain ugly soon as the sun started poking its head out. The open area in the grass was just a mess. I couldn’t believe the HUGE difference between lap 1 and 2.
If you start your ride after 10:00 AM I would suggest skipping Loop 6.

The section after Salamander Switchback with snow is 100 yards at most (as of Sunday afternoon).
I rode on Sunday from noon to 2pm, and the temps were low enough that even direct sun didn't soften up the ground at all.

I guess it was pretty frozen on Sunday and I didn't even notice the snow or ice due to the Nokians. The folks with me didn't seem to slow any and they lacked studs. 100 yards you say??? Not sure how I could NOT see that. There was snow/ice on one of the climbs, but it was doable... maybe 50% shot of clearing it. Of course, windchill on Sunday was in the single digits.
