Looking for someone who can plot a geographic distribution of MORE's membership by zip code. The product would be a map showing each zip code area in our region shaded according to the number of members within that area.
Anyone willing to take a shot at it?

Choropleth.
Ahhh, I woulda liked that job too,
I was too late....
though I' d probably have to wait for my Arcview to arrive in the mail any day now....
My Manifold GIS woulda taken me 10 hours to do a 10-minute job...

Thanks for the offer, Ian. Tom's done some great work, so unless you guys want to compare notes, I think we're pretty good.
Don't worry, Barbara, we'll be posting something soon. Unfortunately, we don't have zip codes for everyone who's registered on the site and our databases don't back up the number of accounts we have on the site, so that number will be much lower than actual, but it's a great start and will be a good tool for us to get a better understanding of our membership distribution.

Frank - This sounds very cool, I am quite interested to see how the membership fans out. I am confused on the above statement though. You say above:
"we don't have zip codes for everyone who's registered on the site and our databases don't back up the number of accounts we have on the site"
Are you entering the data from only dues paying members, or all registered users of this forum? I would be interested in seeing both, but would definitely like to see how the dues paying members are distributed.
BTW - owe you an email. I am just getting over a nasty illness and need to talk to Erik.

Both - we're working on different views. Obviously, paid members are motivated to enter valid zip codes, so those are good, but the software doesn't force reg'd users to enter a zip, so those numbers are very light. Hopefully, statistically useful, though.
NP on the contact. Hope you're felling better.

Frank, How are things coming on this? Do you know when this will be completed?

I think we must all be map geeks... If you want something more complex like this I can help.

The easiest thing to do would be to geocode the addresses (or zip codes) then just upload it to Google Maps or create a .kml file. No need for the super-GIS stuff. That way, anyone can look at it. Unless you are trying to avoid that. Didn't think about that...

I think they're trying to color the zipcodes based on membership density. Just geocoding the addresses wouldn't be that useful. Honestly, I'd bet I could pull something together in a couple of hours.

given these time estimates and that the request went out in December, I would imagine the map has been completed.
Frank or others, has this been completed and are the results going to be made available to members?
