I sold my road bike many years ago - for reasons posted in the War Thread... (http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/showthread.php?p=8121#post8121).
But since then I've gottena hold of sweet fixed gear track bike which I take out to the Prince William Forest now and then. Only then do I ride on the road - I fear for my life otherwise.
So, I guess that also makes me a pseudo roadie...
I much rather be on the trails though :)

Road only if I have to (like when I visit my mother-in-laws, not close to any trails). If I can ever start bike comuting, then my skinny-tire ride will gather much less dust.

I ride my road bike when the trails are too wet (esp winter). There's a 17 mile or so loop in Arlington that's tolerable in the dark in the winter after work (Custis, etc trails). The WOD is nice in Loudoun County. When I lived in MD, there were some fine roads out west of Damascus as well as over by Sugarloaf that had little traffic at 7am on Saturday. I took my road bike with for Thanksgiving a year and a half ago and did a nice 50 mile ride along the coast: South Bethany Beach to Assateague and back.
Ergo, I ride slicks, but singletrack in the middle of nowhere is my vast preference.

I try and only ride my road bike when and where I won't be seen by people who know me. I'm properly ashamed of riding skinny tires.

I ride almost anywhere on the road. This spring has a been a real challenge getting out for long rides but I do agree with SG that West Montgomery County is a sweet place to ride.

When I do hit the road for training spins I usually take the IBIS Hakkalugi (crossbike w/ knobbies) and ride the WOD. I'll stay on the pave section one way and come back on the dirt/gravel trail. Its fun when I pass a roadie on the unpaved section and they are on the paved trail.

I ride on pavement too, but use a hardtail with slicks.

Kinda.... If you've seen my commuter road bike you'd know. I'll put in 50-60 miles on 'er, bu roadies definitely know I'm not one of them when I roll up!

road is good. makes legs stronger. lungs hurt. makes the singletrack refreshing when back in them. anything with two wheels makes me happy - dragging my kids in the burley, night rides at wakefield, vernon trail up to custis down four mile - it's all good.

I just picked up a second wheelset for my mountain bike that I am going to outfit with slicks for road riding.
I don't mind riding roads as a change of pace, and some road rides are great, like riding around the base of Sugarloaf Mountain (you still need fat tires...some of the roads are gravel). Overall, I definitely prefer the off road rides.
I wouldn't mind doing more road rides except that I have "ornamentophobia", or the fear of becoming a hood ornament.

I go both ways....
Though, I do favor singletrack over those boring yellow and white lines on the pavement. When it's raining, though, skinny tires are my only out.
Ah, well...

Last year, after I absolutely crushed myself at Gambrill (a boring litany of injuries that required a hard neck collar and Flexaril), my non-riding friends asked me if I was going to quit mountain biking and switch to road bikes.
I said, "I don't know - let my ask my friend Kyle who BROKE HIS BACK on a road bike."
Road bikes are fun, but I sure prefer singletrack!

I had my first ride with slicks on my bike. Previously, I'd just ride the knobbies on the road. Wow, what a difference! The bike had always felt out of place on pavement, with the slicks it felt downright racy on the streets.
