I am planning a Dream Ride Trip for my 40th birthday. It made me wonder "Where would you ride for your Dream Ride?"

Too many great options to pick one, dig around and just start doing research. Figure out how long you are going and what season you'll be traveling in. That may limit choices. Did some good riding in Southern Utah and Nevada (http://www.flickr.com/photos/singlespeedoutlaw/collections/72157605008570157/) last year, certainly worth checking doing. Crested Butte (http://www.flickr.com/photos/singlespeedoutlaw/sets/72157594344207541/) is a favorite.
If you look outside the US, there's even more options. Closer to home? A few of us spent 9 days of fine riding (http://www.flickr.com/photos/singlespeedoutlaw/sets/72157618772141664/) traveling around VA that stacks up with some of the best places I've traveled.
I'd start by figuring out you budget and time of year, then start looking. I don't like to stay in one spot for too long, but you need to plan and balance the traveling so you don't spend all of your time in the car.

If I was staying in the US/Canada, I'd hit British Columbia.
For a roadie trip, I think I'd hit Japan.
For straight-up mountain biking, I'd love to visit Scotland again. It has a many great trail networks (7 Stanes, Wolftrax, etc), most of which are within an easy day's drive of each other. The best part, many of them are run by the Forestry Commission - their government seems to have a more positive view ofusing and enjoying the land than ours. http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-6MQD2A

TSouthern Utah and Nevada
Yeah, we did some great riding on that trip...
Bootleg Canyon, Gooseberry Mesa. Hurricane rim trail and Bear claw poppy. I'd do all of them again.:)
I guess the OP's question is totally dependent on what he likes to ride. Challenging cross-country vs downhill?

I would suggest BC - either around whistler or the interior around the powder hwy or use some of the same course as the Trans Rockies. I have never been to the alps either but if you see some of (frenchies?) photos of his trip to the alps...that looks pretty epic as well.

Haven't done any research but Hawaii sounds like my dream bike destination.
Tall mountains, nice beaches. Scuba on off days.

2009 dream ride was riding for 2 weeks in the southern Alps including watching and riding stages of the Tour de France.
I think the next dream ride is a tour from Central Canada to DC. There might be a trip to Salida, Colorado snuck in there between. Not sure 'bout that though.

I can barely ride a geared bike; what makes you think I could possibly ride a SS. With that being said, there no way in hell I can pull that outfit off in any race... geared or SS. Still a priceless pic.

Hey Dirt,
You ever been to Salida? I actually may move that up in top 5 echelon of rides. My buddy from Vail has a friend that lives down there and about 3 yrs ago we made a trip down there. There is sooooo much riding there. One of the days we did the Monarch Crest Trail which is EPIC.
OK....I think the original poster should go to Salida. :)
