I kinda like his Miss USA theme song from the movie "Miss Congeniality". You won't believe what yo uhear if you play it backwards.
"Spock is dead. Miss him miss him."

If you like the positively awful song stylings of Shatner, then you have to check this pair out.

Yes! Bryan Adams good one, Now here is a couple of few that are more up to date.
1) Chevelle
2) Creed ( they sucked when they called themselves Pearl Jam)
3) Linkin Park (they started off fine, then got to winey)
4) 99% of the bands on the radio
now some oldies
1) Roxxette (remember them?)
hold on I just remembered the best group ever COLOR ME BAD! Great name hot looks!

Shatner's got a new CD out - I heard one of his "recent" songs on the radio a couple of weeks ago, doing a cover of Common People by Pulp. Great song, being rampantly butchered. I cried.
I cried.
Anyways. In no particular order, singers or groups I can't STAND.
Creed. BIG time! Back when they first came out, someone said they were a Christian rock band. They said they weren't, they just didn't sing about drugs and sex all the time. Suddenly they were covered in crucafix tattoos, and were Christian rockers. Talk about niche marketing!
Hanson. Mmmmbop? How about Mmmmmyouwantfrieswiththat?
Red Hot Chili Peppers. A band I used to love, commercial radio has ruined them for me, since every other song on DC101 is by these guys.
Jane's Addiction. When not playing Red Hot Chilli Peppers, DC101 constantly plays the live version of "Jane Says"
(Actually, I'll just agree with CMF here, and say 99% of singers/groups on the radio.)
Two words - Clay Aiken. Actually, anyone from American Idol.
Green Day. For every song of theirs, sounds the same.
And perhaps the most annoying band, of all time, in my opinion...
BARENAKED LADIES!!!

Yes, Green Day is irritating, their new song (I hone my bone) is REALLy irritating,
Also Stink 182, Bad Charroltte, Sum Suck ass etc. They have bubble gummed up Hardcore P-rock. And should be punished!

I don't find the level of annoyance that you folks do with a lot of these bands because I never listen to music on the radio. I'm sure I will now that I have XM in the car, but that is a different story.
Oh well.

(I'm lazy, so I'll just paste my reply from a similar poll on another site, with minor edits)
Where to start?
Creedence Clearwater Revival is the only band that makes me reach for the dial whenever they come on the radio. A bunch of white boys from the SF Bay Area singing about the sharecropper's life in the deep south? WhutEVurrrr...
I take that back. Janis Joplin does it too.
I don't hate REM, but I'd like to see Mikey Stipe dropped in the middle of a redneck bar wearing nothing but a "Celebrate Diversity" t-shirt. Pretentious little twerp.
Peter Gabriel should've hung it up after "So".
Why is Phil Collins allowed to live?
Henry Rollins is a big ol' prostitute. I'm sorry, but he just is.
I never could stand the Beach Boys. REAL surf music doesn't have vocals!
I like hip-hop. For about 3 minutes. NEXT!!!
Don't get me started on Britney Spears/NSync/various one-name bimbo divas/etc - that ain't music, so why bring it up?
My daughter's entering "tweendom", so I get to hear a lot of predigested Disney pop. It makes me want to eat a shotgun barrel.
Foreigner, "Cold as Ice" - instant self-parody.
80's Hair Metal. The best that could be said for this genre is that it was silly as all get-out.
Any of the new "punk" bands - LinkinSumBlinkPark4182Whatever the heck - they're not punk, they're corporate pap for the masses. Sid Vicious is spinning in his grave.
And on, and on, etc. ad nauseum...

There's 10 minutes I'll never get back...In that case, do NOT, under ANY circumstance watch the other "baggins" link that John posted.
I watched it with morbid fascination. Like a car wreck. Horrible. Truly nasty. Yuck! Unspeakable. You just have to wonder WHAT was going through the mind of the producer/choreographer. I can't even tell what year it was made. It has choreography that is reminiscent of the early 60s. But it's hard to tell if that was a parody or trendiness. Leonard Nimoy. Like Angela Lansbury. Looks identical 40 years later.
And the outfits! Boy, I'll bet they spent a lot ($1.50?) at the Goodwill store for the different colored sweatshirts.

I think that a few folks have something to hide. :DOk, so I watched the first couple you posted. But then I learned. I watched them all the way through. Wondering if there were going to be something unusual that would happen near the end, so I'd better not just cancel out.
So then gaz tells me to make sure I should pay attention to the end of Mr. Tamborine man. I was able to forward the song ahead to the very end without listening to the whole thing. Otherwise I wouldn't have dared listen at all. Though after Nimoy's Bilbo Baggins, even Shatner sounds "good."
Something to hide?? Man, does that mean I can't wear my Star Trek uniform to a MORE ride? Shucks! That was gonna be the theme of the next ride I lead.... ;)

Sorry Gaz, couldn't find a video clip. But how is this for ironic... If you search on a combo of "shatner" and "fiddler", you get a bunch of hits that show that Nimoy did Fiddler on the Roof back in '71.

Don't you worry - with the ride tonight cancelled, I'm busting out the FG DVDs. A week and a bit to the new series!
Of course, with that said, I give to you William Shatner, as.. uhm, the guy from Fiddler on the Roof, in.... FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. (Click the top link)

I basically can't stand ANY modern music. It's all mostly crap. Because by now, nothing's new, it all is just a copy of something else that has a slightly different spin to it.
I do however like Jet, they are one of the select few modern groups that I like.
My most d group/song EVER is Evanesence, that peice of crap "wake me up inside". Good lord, I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard than ANYTHING by them.

Just kidding, I actually bought their album, it is pretty good, just some songs sound like Bon Scott should be singing. Particulary the "Cold Hard Bitch" one.
Are you Gonna Be My Girl is the best.

How could anyone leave out Josh Groban from their most irritating singer list?
Ciara's 1,2 Step is pretty awful, too.
Anything with Puff Daddy or P. Diddy or whatever you want to call him. Heck, if Quincy Jones was my uncle, I'd be a big star, too.
As far as what's popular today, look at the bright side, at least you guys don't have to go and learn this stuff. As someone who makes a good chunk of his living playing music, I have to stay "current" with what the 13 year olds are listening to, lest we lose our bar-mitzvah business (and with it a good part of my income). Try driving 35 minutes to work listening to 2 or 3 tunes over and over again to get them into your head. For example, here's what's in my CD changer now to learn:
1. Switch - Will Smith - He should just focused on acting after "Parents Just Don't Understand"
2. Rich Girl - Gwen Stefani - How utterly annoying!
3. Caught Up - Usher - no comment
The only upside is that these songs are so utterly simplistic that they take no time to learn. Caught Up only has two chords in it. In spite of the ease, it's probably the most depressing time ever to be a wedding/bar mitzvah band musician right now. The vast majority of popular music being made today simply sucks.
To see how a song holds up, I always give it the cocktail piano test. If you can play the song in a cocktail piano style and it sounds like something, there's definitely some songwriting that actually took place. There aren't too many sounds these days that pass that test. Ever tried Britney Spears' "Toxic" as a cocktail piano song?
By contrast, most 1980s songs pass the cocktail piano test. I've been known to thrown in cocktail piano versions of Asia's "Heat of the Moment", The Outfield's "Your Love", "Jesse's Girl" by Rick Springfield and "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC. I first started it as a goof to see if people were actually listening to me...and lo and behold, the more I did it, the more people dug it over the jazz standards that I was playing previously.
That's one of the things I love about mountain biking. Once on the trails, I don't even think about this. The only thing I'm focused on is keeping the rubber side of the bike on the bottom.

Remember John, the newbie from my office, that day at Little Bennett? That's exactly what he *doesn't* like about mountain biking. Having to focus on the rubber side staying on the bottom. Too bad for him! :p
But I've just got to ask. I know it's for another thread, and I don't mean to digress, but what do you, Mr. Professional Musican, actually like to listen to--after you vented so eloquently! :) So I don't screw up yet another thread, please keep your answer short, or answer in the thread about what you're listening to.

I'm the consumate channel surfer. I have 18 presets in my truck and I cycle through them constantly: 3 pop, 1 classic rock, 2 rock, 2 country, 2 classical, 2 jazz, 1 news, 2 soft rock, 1 oldies, 1 R&B, 1 talk,
I don't listen to CDs or the radio at home. However, here are my "Desert Island" CDs:
1. Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
2. Allied Forces - Triumph
3. Songs in the Attic - Billy Joel
4. Journey - Escape
5. Survivor - Vital Signs (It's really cheesy, but I get great high school flashbacks when I listen to it).
6. AC/DC - Back in Black
