As promised, I'm making it a regular ride:

Date: Every Monday until late fall
Start Time: 6pm unless this thread says otherwise
Ride Difficulty: Easy
Phone: 240-994-6932

Extended Description: an 18-mile ride through the Hoyles Mill Connector and Black Hills Regional Park

When: every Monday night. 6pm unless there is a chance of a late thunderstorm or later this fall when sundown comes before 8pm.

This will be a casual to moderate no-drop ride. This is a good workout without being difficult or technical.

Terrain: nothing technical but there are a couple of good climbs in Black Hills. Very few log piles or obstacles.

Length: about 1h45 wheels rolling and a good 2 hours total ride time.

Directions: Schaeffer Farms parking lot

GPS: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/9627966

Ride for tonight is on. Meet at 6pm in the Schaeffer parking lot.

The Hoyles Mill Connector is a fun, fast, easy and varied 7 miles out and back trail. It goes from Schaeffer to Black Hills. Black Hills has a couple of steep hills and some fun rolling terrain.

Entire ride is ~18 miles and will take ~1h45 wheels rolling, ~2 hours total time.

Is this ride a go tomorrow night? It is supposed to be brutal tomorrow, so I don't know if anyone is going to feel up to it. I'd love to join in if it is on!

I'll probably see you out there tomorrow night. I'm going to ride from my house, so depending on the light I may bum a lift home.

Ride is on unless there are strong thunderstorms.

To papandaj: 5:30 is a possibility if there are thunderstorms predicted for late in the day, but right now we'll say 6pm.

Yeah... I have a whole list of excuses. I almost went after you back to schaffer since I was done, so that I could give you are ride as well, but I thought of it a few seconds too late and realized there was no way I could catch up in the shape I am now...

Thanks. I appreciate it. The reason I turned around at that point was I wanted to be able to ride home without hitting much darkness. I managed to average about 12 mph from Black Hill back home, so I actually could have gone on with you guys and done the BH loop, too.

But that assumes I wouldn't have gotten tired with those extra 5 miles and maintained 10 mph. That would have been cutting it close. Next week I'll pack my light. I just want to be off riffleford rd before it gets dark.

Ride is on for tonight. We'll try to start right at 6pm as sunset is now getting really close to 8pm and 2 hours is right about the time we need for the ride.

For future rides, maybe not next week but certainly starting the week after, we'll have to either start earlier (5:30p) or cut the Black Hills portion (and maybe both in late September). What do you guys think? Will you be able to make 5:30p?

Ride is on for tonight. Still 6pm but let's try to get going as close to 6 as we can. The ride can take close to 2 hours and sunset is right around 8pm these days.

Next Monday is Labor Day. Probably a good day to ride. But it's also the day after the SM100 and I think I will need a break, so if anybody wants to volunteer to lead, that would be great.

Let me know if you'd like to do it.

denisvtt
September 7th, 2009, 02:58 PM
Anyone planning on riding tonight?

I rode the SM100 yesterday and was thinking about taking off today but that shouldn't necessarily cancel the ride as several regulars know the route.

denisvtt

Considering it just rained a lot in MoCo, let's cancel this ride.

denisvtt
September 14th, 2009, 09:55 AM
Can't lead the ride again tonight as my bike is being serviced but it would be great if a regular or anyone else could lead it.

Let me know. Thanks.

PS: 5:30 or 5:45 start at the latest if you want to be back in daylight.

Still no bike for today but from what I hear there's at least a few riders interested for tonight. So I'd say let's go ahead and do it. Anybody wants to lead?

He is so OOS (out of shape) now and has to consider this 18-mile HMC/BH ride as "epic" :)

Sure.

Nice to ride with you, John. Try to come out to the Thursday night rides. Also, keep an eye out for a MoCo epic sometime soon.

Which is your reminder, Jim, to post or PM the cue sheet that you have. I found this one in the search:
http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13902&highlight=moco+epic+directions

But I couldn't find the one where you and kegley talked about the ride initially.

I'll piece together all the cue sheets, and we can use that for the SPRING Moco epic MORE thing that was supposed to be this fall and I was too lazy to work on.

Hey guys, I feel really bad about that as I finally got my bikes back, but today is teacher training day, so I'm babysitting my daughter and my wife just said that she won't be back before 6:30p so I'm out again!

I would recommend starting no later than 5:45p if you want to do just HMC and 5:30p if you want to do BH as well.

Damn!

How much of BH do you think we can ride today?

Probably not much but it will be a last minute decision depending on how fast we will have done the first leg of HMC. Sunset tonight is around 6:45p.

I think it's too difficult for most people, including me, to make it by that time, but I'm open to asking the question and see what people say.

So feel free to chime in, everyone.

If it is to difficult thats OK. I do not want to cause folks to be rushing home and adding stress to our already stressful lifestlyes to make a ride. 5:30 it is.

Thank you Denis!! I would like to thank Denis for setting up and leading this ride for the past several months. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of riding with some very strong riders and have seen my own endurance increase substantially over the last several months of riding with the group. I have also enjoyed making some new friends and the comraderie of fellow avid MTBer's.
