A HUGE thanks to whoever did, whether it be somebody from here/a horse person/or the county. I didnt see any updates on here about it, so I was just wondering who did.

While Giles run has some thorn bushes that will still cut you up as your riding through, there is almost zero long grass throughout the meadows! There is even a pathway cut through to apple orchard loop now (I swore off the loop for fear of all the ticks that I picked up on that short stint the last time). Out of all the loops I only found 2 ticks this time around.

Woo hoo! I was thinking of riding there tomorrow. Good to hear, as last weekend it was bad. I owe whoever it was a beer!

Yeah - a curse in disguise.

I rode there yesterday and woke up this morning to a flat. Swapped it out and rode there again - this time just the workhouse loop - and ended the ride walking back along the CCT with two flats. I won't be riding there again for quite some time.

There was a few posts on MTBR forums about trimming up Laurel Hill. I don't know if they are on this board or not.

Did you find what caused the flats?

I've encountered some substantial thorns @ LH. They seemed to have the ability to flat many tires.

There is also the potential legacy of years of virtually industrial human presence there, and it's not hard to find the remants of the prison and its farm heritage. (Barbed wire, razor wire, trash, etc.)

Did you determine what happened with your flats? Thorns or something else? Tks

I rode there today and it was great. I had no issues and the mowing really made a difference. Thanks to Chris Morin our Trail Liaison for working withthe park to get it mowed.

No ticks at all

Yep - lots of thorns. My rear tire has at least half a dozen that penetrated my tire.

Both of my tires were riddled with little micro-thorns. They look like little thorn-embryo's, compared to the thorn bushes that hang over the trail and rip flesh from my arms.

With that said, I was able to ride all of the loops yesterday (7/22), and had no issues.... until I got back to the parking lot. That's where I noticed that my front tire seemed a little low.

By the time I got home, my front tire was like a warm jello puddle. :bangshead:

I encountered the same problem on Sunday, seems like whatever was mowed (including thorny plants) wound up covering the trails in the open fields.

I noticed I was losing air, stopped and cleared lot's of mini thorns imbedded in both tires, changed the rear tube (after checking the inside of the tire to make sure I hadn't missed anything), managed to finish the ride okay but after driving home realized I'd gotten another flat.

thinking of heading out there. with this many people reporting single or dual flats, its not an isolated stray barbwire incident. has anyone been out in the last few days?

Rode all the trails yesterday, no flats. I saw some thorn branches on the trail, but it seems the thorns themselves have settled in (or migrated out on various tires:rolleyes:)

I got a pretty good set of blackberry scratches out near the disk golf course yesterday after you passed us.

Maybe its the equestrians pulling a quick one! "The horse poop didn't work guys. What should we do? I know lets trim all the grass, so the thorn bushes can invade! They will think its awesome that somebody trimmed the grass, but really we will win in the end! Viva la Cavalier!"

Ok so I got carried away in my thoughts.

I wouldn't put it past them!

the equestrians were very instrumental in making sure that MTBers had a seat at the table 5 years ago when we tried to get into discussions with the county. We do not always seem to get along but over the past ten years the relationships have prospered into one of mutual respect for our respective sports.

Good to know. The ones I've run into out there have been very courteous.

My comment was mostly in jest...

rode yesterday one flat, probably because I stopped to eat blackberrys
