Just in from FCPA...

The Fairfax County Park Authority is beginning a construction project in the Pohick Stream Valley Trail in the area of the Dominion Virginia Power Transmission lines near Pohick Road. This project will consist of needed maintenance and significant improvements to the Cross County Trail (CCT). The 2006 Park Bond will provide funding for this project.

The contractor, Avon Corporation, will be mobilizing on site within the next month. Contingent upon weather, this project will continue throughout the summer and will be completed in the fall of 2009. Construction of approximately 900 feet of trail and two (2) new fairweather pedestrian crossings and three (3) fairweather pedestrian crossing replacements are planned. Construction access to the site will be from the existing trail and park entrance at the end of Wadebrook Terrace.

Trail users should expect periodic parking restrictions on portions of Wadebrook Terrace for the purpose of facilitating the passage of construction materials and equipment. In addition, the existing stream crossings will be removed and construction equipment will be present on the trail during construction. As a safety precaution, portions of the existing trail may occasionally be closed to users during the project.

Please contact Tom McFarland, the project manager, at (703) 324-8688 if you have any questions regarding this work.
