I'm thinking of hitting FH for the first time in over a year after work today. Anyone know if it's okay to ride or too soggy?

I was out in gunston on the road bike yesterday and all the dirt and lawns still looked really wet.

I was tempted to drive down there after work but I'm thinking it will be too soggy still. Another day on pavement I guess.

Prince William Forest Park trails were a mess yesterday for the EX2 1/2 Marathon, I can't imagine FH being much better only 24 hours later.

As of 5/20, 1:00 PM FH is certainly ready to ride. Go ride it.

Thanks for the update. And thanks to the volunteers who for two years cut many, many, knicks, which allows Fh to dry out that much faster.

Yep. Only two spots damp. The back area with the "imported" rocks and the exit.

When FH's dry, you don't stop to admire the rocks, you pin it. Conditions were awesome today. A few muddied spots. Some avoidable, but overall, very nice!

The looked great. I think they will hold at least through this season. We should do another set up a little higher and the entire hill will be golden for this season. The other work, the draining and other SOB adjustments are also working out nicely.

Actually Phil, I was showing some guys your handy work and they went up and rode it and branded it "much improved".

The rocks are under the dirt at this time, but you can see them... although I would bet most folks are looking down the trail at that time. They are placed to reduce erosion, not to create a rock garden.

...... We should do another set up a little higher and the entire hill will be golden for this season....

I consider my knowledge for that day passed on to younger and potentially stronger individuals. I have noticed as of late that the gravity on this orb has been slowly increasing as I get closer to my MTB retirement. Rocks and buckets of gravel have been slowly getting heavier as each year passes.

I do recommend building and using one of these: http://gorctrails.blogspot.com/2008/05/i-am-spartacus.html when you head out to armor a little higher up on the hill. Those straps were for the birds............ (Although they did work)
