My wife and I recently had our first child and we decided it was time to move the bikes outside. In our little two bedroom townhouse, our six bikes - stacked against the living room wall - made for a great conversation starter, but didn't seem to be very baby friendly. Without a garage, we had to find something to fit into our semi-enclosed patio.
Some internet research led me to this Rubbermaid Slide Lid Shed (http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/product/product.jhtml?prodId=HPProd100677). It's designed for riding lawnmowers, but the advertising copy said it'd fit bikes as well. Home Depot carries them for $349, although it was a pain to find a store that actually had one in stock. (The Merrifield store still has another.) I bought one last Saturday. It came in two large boxes, big enough to require a pick up truck for transportation.
So, I spent about an hour on this beautiful afternoon to set it up. I've gotta say, I'm impressed. It fit 5 bikes (2 road bikes, 3 mountain bikes) easily, seems fairly sturdy, and is lockable. We've dubbed it "The Bike Barn."
I'm interested to see how well it keeps out the rain we should get tomorrow. Any ideas how to keep the humidity inside down to a reasonable level?
