Has anyone done this here? I am thinking that About stripping a frame down to bare metal and letting it oxidize for protection, but will that be enough?

Yes, aluminum can be left raw. It will develop a thin layer of oxidation that protects the metal.

Weird, I can see the pictures in Jab's write up but not your Blog. Probably some crazy security thing here at work. I will try at home.

If I were you and I liked the bike I would clear-coat it.
Aluminum will corrode in the presence of salt:
