Trail is really hard moist clay with no dust in my wake. The clay is so hard packed, no tire tread are left behind. The trial is very fast, likely the best Cabin John trail conditions I've ever seen.
It spinkled a bit on my way back. More rain my not be good for the trail.
PS Cabin John dosen't get the attention it deserves, so I am double posting.

Thanks for the conditions update. You are right. Cabin John will never be confused with Schaeffer Farm but it's great to have an option so close to the city.
Two nice things about CJ:
1. New trail underway across Tuckerman.
2. You can actually go MTBiking without a car. Fom Bethesda metro the J2 bus goes straight to Montgomery Mall, then 2 minute bike to the park entrance.

By the way, the new trail is mostly finished. The log crossings have been cleared and the new part of the trail has been compacted down nicely. The only thing left to do is build the bridges and perhaps some minor trail maintaince this spring.
Direction to get to the new trail north of Tuckerman, proceed as follows.
From Democracy BLVD:
1. Head north on the Cabin John Trial.
2. Turn LEFT on Tuckerman LN as before.
3. Pass the old entrance into the group camping site (gravel road)
4. Pass the group picnic grounds (7701 Tuckerman Ln).
5. Continue about 100 feet on Tuckerman LN.
6. Turn RIGHT onto the new Cabin John Trail.

Hi,
I rode the northern part of the trail (Goya to Tuckerman) a couple of weekends back and can confirm this section is much improved from last year. When I rode it previously the lower part near Tuckerman was not at all easy to follow. Things are now very clear and the recent work has made this a much more pleasant ride.
It's great to have a trail like this that I can bike to from my house!
