Heres the scenerio: man is at home, working in the basement. Would be thieves kick down his front door and start taking his stuff. He calls 911, sneaks out the back door and notices they left their getaway van idling in front of his house. Man hops in van and drives away.

My favorite quote was the opening of the 911 call:

Here is the verbatim of the 911 call:

Patrick: "They just broke in and they've been running around in my house and oh look they left the door open with the car. Uh I just drove their car away."

911 Dispatcher: "Don't do that sir! You just stole their car"

Patrick: "Yeah, I know I just stole their car."

Truly excellent. :D

I saw that on the news last night, too! Good on him. Quick thinking and tons of irony.

And yet, what followed was:

911 Dispatcher: "Okay, you can now be charged with that. Stop."

Really.

And yet, what followed was:

Him breaking the law.

Pretty black and white if you ask me (took a car that did not belong to him), but oh so awesome. Even more awesome, him sounding giddy as hell while on the line with 911 operator, while he was being robbed. :D

I guess I would have been more inclined to give the thieves van just a little touch up of my own, seeing as how they had redecorated my front door.

See, in VA the intruders would just have been shot. Not nearly as funny, I know.

No, that was North Carolina. A kid was shot in the back and killed when running away from a guy when caught stealing his motorcycle. I very much understand the anger over theft, but the death penalty for thwarted thievery? Oops, not trying to get into politics here. [Where's the duct tape over a mouth smiley?]

Anyway, I root for the guy who took the van, too. I suspect that his wise-est course of action would have been to drive the van to the nearest police station.

Nah, in VA we have a little more tact... and I don't see this topic being political at all (well, unless we're now considering talk of what's allowed for under the laws of the Commonwealth 'political'). But, duct tape can be fun... heheheheh :D

And, props for stealing the van. Besides, it was probably an eyesore, and he was just 'moving' it.
