The requirement that you have chain guide mounts on the frame pretty much make it useless for me. For the kind of riding I do, it solves a problem that I don't have.

Actually, it's probably FR. A single ring up front is all that's needed for DH. Freeriders on the other hand would definitely use a granny ring. Of course, considering its weight, the HammerSchmidt would only be useful on a FR frame that doesn't have mounting area for a front derailleur, and there are only a handful of those frames out there anyways.

comes in a dh/fr and am version. would be superb for am. it's not about weight savings, better shifting performance for sure. if sram gave prodeals, i'd buy one for the bike i don't have.

They run their prodeals through QBP, look on the "tools" tab.
