Reducing travel on a 100mm fork??

I have a 2007 Manitou R7 Super TPC with 100mm travel and would like to reduce it to 80mm. Does anyone know how or if it can be done?

In general, shouldn't it possible to reduce travel on any fork by adding spacers of some sort? Thoughts??
