Has anyone had any experience w/ the fox f series w/ 15QR thru axle? I am thinking about getting that fork in the future and have not seen any reviews on it (competitive cyclist doesn't count). Can anyone really tell the stiffness difference? Also, what hubs were you using, XTR, C-King?

I'd stick with the 20mm thru stuff. 15mm isn't that much lighter (10-12g?) and there is WAY more 20mm stuff out there.

In general, thru-axles are WAY stiffer. And dual crown forks are even stiffer yet. Mostly, it's the torsional stuff that thru-axles help out with, not so much in deflection.

I agree. Why create another standard? The siffness difference is real. I was shocked at how much better my pike steered vs. the Reba it replaced.

I have a Fox Talas RLC 15mm and it is way stiffer than the Fox Talas RLC QR I replaced it with. I used to hear my rotor sing on the brake pads when carving hard with the QR fork while the 15mm fork doesn't make a sound. I do weigh in @ 210lbs. so my QR feld a little noodley I went with a hope hub, which came with the 15mm adapter. I agree that there's not allot a difference in weight between the 20mm vs 15mm. The idea is to replace the QR with a thru axle.

I'd go 20mm as well. Rockshox stuff isn't much heavier, is excellent, and uses the widely available 20mm size.

Thru axle us the way to go. I'll never buy a QR fork for a mountainbike again.

And I'm a big Maxle fan (the Rock Shox 20mm QR).

Check out the Rock Shox Pike. Money.

King makes 15mm hubs. I9 does also. I know with I9 it is just an adapter you need if you already have the hub. Don't know they chose 15mm. I personally think Fox's are way better then anything Rock Shox puts out. I have owned both and I think Fox out performs Rock Shox on their cross country forks. Don't know about the downhill forks.

My Pike was the best fork I've ever had; My Fox F29 fork is definitely better than the Reba it replaced. Tough to say if the Fox is better than a 100/120mm thru-axle Reba. Who the hell want's I9 wheels anyway?

I thought you hated your 5spot? I do believe the Pike was on that bike. It is not fair to compare a Thru axle to a QR. But my Fox's have felt better then my Reba's As for I9's, I was just getting the info out there, not recommending them.

Yes, I did hate the 5-spot. The Pike was so good I almost decided to keep it. I've heard really good things about the new 20mm Reba's; I certainly would try them out before I decided to go for a brand new standard. Almost all hub manufacturers make 20mm thru axles; I'm sure if the 15mm catches on they will be common as well, but currently the supply is much more limited.

I liked my 4" travel Fox more than my 3" Travel Reba. Of course I liked my 4" travel Reba better than the 3" travel Fox Vanilla I was using before. Perhaps it was just the extra inch of travel?

I think the RockShox stuff just isn't "fancy" enough for you. You do have your standards. ;)
