So, I got my son a Trek Float for Christmas. He is 3 yrs old, and of average size. Obviously, he wasn't in the bike shop with me, and my LBS guy assured me it would be fine. And looking at the cute little tiny thing, I thought, "Oh, yeah, that'll be fine..."

Well, it's not fine. He (my son) is about 3" too short for the bike. But, he loves the bike, so, what are my options? One option is that Trek also makes the Jet 12, which seems to be the 12" version of the Float. But, one of the reasons I decided to shell out the $$ for a really nice bike was that the Float should fit him until he's six. Not so with a Jet.

Just wondering, is there any way to "convert" to smaller wheels or something? I guess that's a stupid question, 'cause imagining my 26" wheels replaced with 22" wheels would look freaking hilarious, but I can always hope, right?

So it starts – My two girls both roller and ice skate, ski, bike, dance, gymnastics – so I too have tried the magic shrinking thing ranging from magic pixie dust to the Voltron shrinking ray.

So far though, there has only been one documented success in making something smaller – a new little one

For your three year old – stash the good bike and head to K- Mart.

Should work, no brakes and cranks, just add 12 inch wheels and it will fit fine.
