thinking about switching forks. the current model is 140MM, the proposed one is 130MM. The bike came with a 130MM the model year before mine and i checked and saw that the geo and angles are the same in both years. do you all suppose id notice that much difference in handling, fit, etc? i spent a lot of time getting the current stem height and length dialed in. thanks in advance.

It's all about the axle to crown vs. the total travel. Take a look at the manufacturers website to see what the measurements are. That being said, I think you're probably fine w/ a 10 mm change.

I seriously doubt that you would notice much of a difference. I've swapped around forks w/ at least that much change and never noticed anything that I couldn't quickly get used to. It will steepen your HTA by about half a degree. Depending on your headset type, they sell crown races that raise your front end 5-10 mm.

Could you describe the handling and fit issues you are experiencing now that you want to correct?

sorry, i probably didnt word it well enough. right now, there are no handling or fit issues. it took me a long time to get the present fit right with the present fork (stem height and length and angle) and didnt want to go thru that again. My reason for switching is that the present 140MM fork is coil sprung and i want the added infinite tuneability of an air sprung one. the air sprung one that I want (really, the one tat i want from my budget range) is the 130MM one. Using the 130MM will make the front lower a lil, and maybe have to reevaluate the stem issue (fit) issue?? thanks

Just add 2-4 psi in the fork above where you should and you'll suck up most of that steeper head tube. It'll keep the bars just about where they are now. You may have to raise the nose of your saddle a smidge.
