View Full Version : Replacing seals on Juicy 7

My Juicy 7 brake (right/rear) leaks--the reservoir cover has had corrosion around it for many months, and it's just recently started to lose pressure. I had a screw tightened at the bike shop in the summer, and I didn't notice any further leaking after that, but now that it's started losing pressure I assume there must be some. Maybe the bladder needs to be replaced? Or is there a seal inside the reservoir? Has anyone else dealt with a problem like this? I'm wondering how much to budget for repair, vs. how much it would cost to replace the lever assembly entirely, since either way it will have to be bled, and I don't feel confident to do any of this myself.

Get it bled or just buy the bleed kit. If you have a pulse, you can follow the EXCELLENT directions that SRAM/AVID supplies with the kit. They are full-color in poster format.
You can do it!
If not, somebody around here can. Plus, the bleed kit will cost you more than a bleed at a shop, I think...

Bleeding Avids are super easy. Buying the kit will cost more than having the shop bleed it but it will come w/ extra fluid and fittings....for the next time.

Deff suggest getting the bleed kit and learning to bleed. Any time you can work on a bike without having to take it to a shop, you save money. Also, you get a better understand of the machine you are riding.
If you do, however, not want to go through the trouble, most shops will be glad to take care of the bleed, or seal replacement. Especially at this time of the year, the turn around time for labor should be really quick.

Agreed, the bleeding is easy - and installing new cable fittings is easy as well on avid brakes - but be aware that (as far as i remember) the bleed kit doesn't come with any kind of seals, if your leak is coming from the reservoir or anything.

Any chance it would be easier to replace the lever assembly, which costs $60, thus guaranteeing (?) that all parts are in good shape, and eliminating guesswork on the actual cause of the leak?
