It seems that with the artifically low current price of oil, there should not be a shortage of plastic bags. So I have to assume that the City of Falls Church merely failed to notify me that today was official "Let Your Dog Take a Fat Dook on the W&OD Trail Day." In all seriousness, I encountered no fewer than five ripe steamers on or in the immediate vicinities of the trail between Rt. 29 and Virginia Lane this morning. It was not a repeat offender with a medical issue; rather, the obstacles ranged in severity from "rat-like yappy dog" to "Saint Bernard on Thanksgiving leftovers."
This conduct, by both dogs and owners, is beyond opprobrious. At the very least, I expect prior warning so that I can affix fenders to my bicycle.
Indignantly yours,
Walsh

opprobrious.
Nice. Haven't needed to look up a word in a long time. Well done!

You're description made me feel like i was there.
But seriously, thats just annoying. I'm mean come on people, have some decency to pick up after your dog. It's your dog, and it's probably the law. Pick it or ticket. (haha, yeah maryland seatbelt matto).

Walsh, I was with you until you used "opprobrious":confused2:. No one should ever use that word in a post unless they went to Princeton. Now I going to the W&OD and leave you a present. :D

I hear ya'! The same thing is happening around my apartment complex. As a convenience to residents, up until somewhat recently management had provided poopie bag dispensers above where residents would dispose of pet waste. Since removing those dispensers (for whatever reason), I've noticed more and more dog sh*t on the grounds, and management has gone so far as to warn that if the behavior continued, the pet-friendly thing would be no more. It's disgusting. I'm not sure if people are just common, or lazy, or just too f*cking stupid to realize that they can go to PetSmart and pick up a roll of their own bags, or even be so outside-the-box to use plastic grocery bags, newspaper bags, etc.
The behavior is disgusting, IMHO, but somehow seems typical of NoVA. Nevermind anyone else - let someone else deal with my mess. I hate people.
No shortage of plastic bags in this area, just an overwhelming shortage of common decency.

I'll watch for larger-than-usual piles that smell like Doritos and Flying Dog . . . I hear Kegley scat can eat right through tires.

This is a problom in Broadlands, and what is really sad is that there are doggie-bag stations all over the place. It actually isn't that uncommon to see a load right in front of the stations.

I've been noticing more and more poo all over the trail from ashburn all the way to falls church over the last week. I'm not sure i understand why? Less people riding and walking by to get it on thier wheels/feet maybe? :hammertime:

My guess is less crowded trails means more pooping w/o witnesses which means less cleaning up.
Shannon and I used to live in Montgomery Village. Not a lot of problems w/ poop on the sidewalk during normal weather. If it snowed and the snow stayed for any appreciable amount of time the sidewalks would be littered w/ dog crap when the snow melted. I think the same thing happened; less people out there, much less obvious when the dog pooped means less cleaning up.

Ok, so now that I know what opprobrious is, what lies beyond that? More shame? Probably not. Fame? Nah. Smug indifference? A trip to Wal-mart? :bangshead: Very confusing.
