Former MORE President and current Trail Boss Scott Scudamore was recently appointed DC-area IMBA rep. and reports back about his trip to IMBA’s first-ever member meeting in Boulder on March 5-6. He joined 10 other IMBA members from around the country to brainstorm with the IMBA staff and Board of Directors on ways to better support the needs of mountain bikers worldwide. Here is Scott's summary of the event:
This experience ranks right up there with anything I have done to date with mountain bike advocacy. I had very lofty expectations for this meeting and all of those expectations were met and then some. Mike Van Abel, the new IMBA executive Director is fantastic and I believe he is just the right person to bring IMBA up to the next level in providing the best direction and image for mountain bikers throughout the world. I also had a chance to talk face- to- face with all the IMBA staff and all of the IMBA Board of Directors during my visit. There are many difficult challenges that mountain bikers face over the next few years and I believe that IMBA is facing those challenges and successfully moving forward. I got a lot of new ideas from members like Sue Fry in California, Tom Sauret from SORBA, Tim Wegner from Minnesota and Todd Scott from Michigan. Matt Marcus from West Virginia was my roommate and we discussed several ways that members from our two states can work closer together. In the coming months IMBA will be finalizing specific actions from our suggestions. As those actions come out I will pass them on to MORE.
We talked a lot about wilderness issues and we expect to talk even more about that during the upcoming IMBA 24 hours of Advocacy on April 7th here in Washington, D.C. Go to www.imba.com and sign up if you are interested in attending. If you want to hear more about my visit feel free to contact me mtbmore@comcast.net.
