It is a "North Woods" 21 speed tandem bicycle. I purchased it out of the Sharper Image magazine for myself and my wife to ride in '97 or '98 (Wife doesn't ride. This was the only way I could get her to ride with me without plunking down too much money) We used it a bit, but now it's just taking up space in the garage. The bike does need work. In particular:

1. Headset is loose/worn.
2. Derallieurs need adjustment
3. Brakes need a serious upgrade. Bike came with cantilever brakes. There's simply not enough stopping power when going downhill to bring it to a stop in a reasonable distance (I've learned that one the hard way  ). It should accomodate an upgrade to a linear-pull set without too much fuss.

The bike tips the scale at a whopping 63 pounds (or 2 1/2 Kleins as the case may be). The rumors that the frame is made from the same material they are using for the Wilson Bridge project are completely false.

Derallieurs are Shimano SIS with thumb shifters (remember them?). The rest of the componentry is "mystery meat". Front wheel does have quick-release, rear wheel does not.

Asking $65 or best offer. Any questions or interested parties may contact me at OnyxSax@aol.com

I'd be interested if you still have it. It's been a day so the vultures have probably already descended, but worth a shot. Let me know - dtnewsgroup at yahoo . com

If DT doesn't take it (or someone else before him) give me a call or drop me an email with frame size, etc. Is this a road tandem?

The bike is still available as of 2/28.

It is a "mountain bike style" tandem. The frame size is 19" for the captain, 16" for stoker (stroker?). It has knobby tires with the center ridge. It behaves nicely on pavement, but it's really not meant for any kind of off-roading outside of the C&O canal towpath.

Correction -- the tires don't have the center ridge. They're big chunky knobbies, but I wouldn't recommend taking this beast on anything rougher than the C&O towpath.

If you'd like, i can tune it up for whoever buys it. I'm looking for some $$ so I'll do it for $45 [plus cost of part(s) if any]. Most bike shops around here charge anywhere from $70-$90 to do it. Plus, I can install any new parts you get for it.

I love working on bikes, and don't worry, I know what I'm doing [I built up my own bike, as well as my dad's, you can ask bigbadbrad how he likes it ; ) ]. Basically the only thing I didn't do on either one is press the headset in, I couldn't justify spending $100 bucks on a tool I'd use 2-3 times in twice as many years.

Email me at Liquidman89@juno.com if you're interested--Graham
