View Full Version : The Wandering Thread
PunkRock
October 9th, 2008, 01:24 AM
From time to time forum threads sometimes wander off topic. Usually but not always, they remain somewhat related to the original post. When they're borderline related it then becomes necessary to scroll back to thread entry #1 and learn of the original topic. No big deal I guess. That's part of the fun in having open discussions, right?
Just for grins, I'd like to see just how far off topic a thread can go. The only requirement is to include the thread entry number, circled in red in photo below, of the entry to which you're replying. This will give everybody a fighting chance to know what the hell you're talking about! :D

I'll start it off.......
I've been hearing a strange sound from my rear wheel. I think I may need a new cassette. Any suggestions?

My rear wheel is squealing like a stuck pig, but that just might be my rear hub telling me to lube it. Rain over the weekend kind of blows. Is there a night ride going out at WF tonight? I heard the DOW just dropped another 329042093123 points.
...is that off topic enough?

The DJIA is one indicator of the US economy. The PPI, CPI, and GNP are others. Combined, they provide a better, overall picture of economic conditions. The unemployment rate is a key factor too. Too often, the media focuses on only one indicator which can be misleading. Obviously, viewer ratings are a key indicator for them. It could be called irresponsible journalism-IMHO.

Skip buying the new cassette, get with the times and buy CDs the sound is much better. Lately I have just been getting my music from itunes. I am thinking of getting a Rhapsody acct. Anyone else have one?

The other thing to consider is the economic cycle. Sure you have the DJIA and the other indexs, but you also have to look at consumer confidence. The #3 element would be business reaction to the other two, which would then push them further down. As some point someone has to jump in and break the cycle.

You know, the forum has a perfectly functioning "quote" system, that allows you to quote the person you are responding to, giving everyone a clear indication as to which post your comment is directed. :)
I guess that is my way of saying the whole number thing is getting extremely confusing. I keep having to scroll backwards trying to match responses to posts.

The stuff I have here is on cassettes - Exploited, Doggy Style, D.I., D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies and a couple with various artists (Punk & Disorderly, Clockwork Orange County). My favorite is still "...with a glass plate in your stomach, everyone will look at you, the only woman in the world to have a womb with a view." Who's that kids? I bet if you don't know the most famous line from Animal House, then you don't know that band. Oh, I still have lots of punk LPs. My nephew was thrilled when I gave him my 8-Track player.
Purple? Deep Purple. Purple Haze. One-eyed, One-horned Flying Purple People Eater.
Does anyone else have literal trouble with "I'm dating myself."? While some may argue that English is a rich and colorful language, it likely has some of the silliest idioms.

Sorry, silly comms problems so I've been off line for a few days.
I recall them being called Charged Great Bodily Harm but Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charged_GBH) disagrees. Either way, they did some great stuff.
Not sure rusty99 but on a similar topic (and a bit of punk trivia), Billy Idol first sung "Dancing with Myself" while a member of Generation X.
