New office birthday policy is that if it's your birthday, you bring in the cake for an officially-scheduled social. (Is it any wonder that the originator of that scheme got fired?)
SO, for my birthday today, I miss beautiful riding weather in order to deliver cake into the squawking mouths of my coworkers. If anyone walks into my cube right now, they run the risk of being shivved with a letter opener.

That is asinine! Sounds like you are back in kindergarten, where your mommy would supply silly hats and cupcakes for your birthday.

Why would rocks commute at all, by bike or otherwise? And how would they reach the pedals?

Actually, the new convention is that you bake your own cake.

EPA is our primary client, so I'm used to feeling that way. ;)

Even worse!
"Hey, Walsh, great cake! The weird thing is, though, the more I eat, the hungrier I'm getting! And everything seems so much funnier!" Heheheheheheheh....

This is actually the custom in some European countries. If you want a party, you throw it. I like the idea because you won't get an almond cake with butter cream icing when you really wanted a Dairy Queen cake.

From a Government contracting standpoint, this makes good sense. I don't think birthday cake is allowed under FAR 31 and ensuring it is allocated to a non-overhead account (or a non-billable account) is a nuisance.

This is probably the main reason he/she got canned.

Note to self... eat cake at Craig's house, not the Yaks.

I'm going car-less.
Leaving for Korea in a few months, will be over there for 2 years (atleast). I'll be on the bikes for the duration...gonna get another bike for my 9 (almost 10) year old daughter, we'll be burning up the country side, I can't wait...we'll be flying past gas stations dotted though out the country...as we search out good places to peddle.

I swear, I get so sick of the FAR. We usually just chip in for the cake here, or take the victim to lunch :)

Sweet! Just watch out for the traffic in Seoul - man, and I thought NoVA drivers were crazy... LOL

My apologizes for bringing back an old thread....my bikes are on their way to Korea (as of Wednesday), I'll be passing them on the way, I fly out of Dulles Monday. I've been out of the loop for a little while, apparently I can only stay focused on so many hobbies at a time....I'm looking forward to riding everyday again, I think a goal of 2,500 miles should be acceptable for the next twelve months...as long as that also includes rock climbing. Maybe a conjunction of the two....?:p I promise to crash, and post up when it happens-->again...shouldn't take long.

First off, happy belated birthday. Sorry I'm late. I was hating all humanity when this post originally aired.
"Shiv" is a noun. "To shank" is the verb that you're looking for.
I hope that helps.
Best wishes for some happy shanking (double and possibe tripple entendre intended).
;)
Hugs and kisses.

Yeah, I was there for a few weeks for work when I was supporting USFK at Yongsan. I remember ordering eggs and hash browns one day for breakfast at the hotel off base at their 'western' cafe, and I ended up with eggs and tater tots. No kidding. And, don't get me started about the Korean Elvis impersonator at the mexican restaurant (I sh*t you not) at Dragon Hill across from the base. It was like Chi Chi's, only, well, not quite right.

I'll have to keep everyone updated on what's "still not quite right", I'll start a new thread when appropriate, not sure how long it'll take me to get interweb access after I get there.

Never heard of those, is it scrambled the way breakfast sammiches are? The burgers in Korea with the egg, are usually sunny side up, or over easy....can't remember exactly, usually got them after a "nite on the town"...you will wear yoke at some point in that situation, not sure why I know that.:D

I have no doubt about that!!! But if you like eggs and burgers, Red Robin will put a fried egg on your burger, I might get one tomorrow after a trip to the Crazy Rays :hammertime:

I think it goes against everything in the Blue and White's credo to serve anything that isn't fried, and doesn't have the potential to kill you. It is NOT for the weak. It is, however, very friggin good. :D

Landed a few hours ago, I'll have to wait a little while to enjoy all things fried, questionable species on a stick, yaki mondu, Miss Lee McDonals (IIRC that's the street vendor that puts the egg on top of the burger).... good times.

I've cried already...my roadie (Nekid CAAD9) got messed up in shipping...it was pristine when it left home...never crashed (unlike the MTB),... saddle has a gash, frame has been scuffed, :nope: If one of y'all (Cannonade folks) could point me in the direction of getting her back to the condition she was in in please let me know. I'm in South Korea.

I've got a couple thousand miles on her without so much as a clear coat chip until this....
There are more scuffs than the ones in that picture, pretty much all the way down the side, no dent's in the tubing that I've noticed, shifters are guffed up with surface scratches also....

I don't know that c'dale will help you out with that... I think you're on your own.
I would apply some clear nail polish if you feel you have to, though the aluminum should be fine through the elements.

I'm not "expecting" Cannondale to do anything, I'll be filing a damage claim with the shipping company for reimbursement. I'm more looking for advice from folks that work in bike shops that have any experience with repairing bikes that were damaged by a shipping company. Just basic advice appreciated.

It looks like its all cosmetic. It sucks, but short of replacing the parts I don't think theres much you can do. I'd get what you can out of the shipping company and just ride it like it is.

Scratches on the frame are all cosmetic, it sucks, but it is what it is...the scratches on the back of the fork on the other hand, are worse than the pic shows, I think a fork replacement might be in order.
