I know to most its considered the ugly step child of the trails but its where I started and I have a fondness for it.

This is more of an inquiry than a report. I was out there yesterday 2/19/05 trying to get in one huge loop. I'm on the blue loop just past the archery practice range when bam!! The trail stops. They had clear cut an 1/8 mile swath ride through the middle of the trail. No warning or nothing. I had no choice but to turn around and back track.

Does anybody know whats going on?

BTW-It was very rideable. There were a number of soft spots but mainly on the doubletrack/fire roads so they were easily avoidable.

I'll see if I can find out. Started at Cedarville myself about 14 years ago!! Fond memories fumbling around in the woods looking for trail, bowhunters everywhere.

The link to your blog states "Not Found".
I did check it out yesterday. I like it. Sounds like you're riding quite a bit. We'll have to hook up for a ride.

See ya at R-ville!!

Internet Shy. Thanks for heads up, I fixed it.

I was trying to find Karens email and see if she knew anything about it. Anybody got it.

I saw that area too, and it looks rough. I work for DNR and have a little inside scoop. The DNR Forestry guys periodicly have timber sales to private logging companies and that was one of them. It was a clear-cut area about 30 acres. There are more timber sales planned in other areas of Cedarville for 2005, 7, 9, 11, and 2013 all 20 to 40 acres.

All of the operational (recreation, law enforcement, maintenance, etc.) activities at C'ville is managed by the State Park Service. All land management issues are handled by Forestry since C'ville is actually a State Forest. The managed cut at C'ville is one of many planned from now until long after all of us are gone : ) Signs were supposed to be ordered, but I suspect that since Forestry took a pretty big hit in this years budget cut (lost several positions state wide), ordering and installing signs dropped pretty low on the priority list. I'll make another inquiry sometime this week. The area w/ start to re grow in the near future. Hope this helps.

I'm not really worried about the actual clear cutting. I was talking to someone out there during a trailwork day and they were telling me about how the clear cutting actually improves the total health of the area.

I'm not real sure how it works but I live in So. Md on 3 acres with 2 of those being designated forest conservation area. Most of the trees are pine, and I see first hand how the pines should be gotten rid after they get so big.

Darn things are the first ones to come down in heavy storms.

I'm just wondering how soon before the machinery gone and cleared so I can do a complete blue loop.

See ya

I was down at Cedarville for Archery practice today. After about an hour of shooting arrows a man and a child rolled up in a vehicle and took out a gun case and took off into the clear cut. Anyway, this led me to visit the ranger and inform him of this. I asked him about trail conditions and he state they are in good shape and very ridable, he has done some maintaince on trails and stated that no too many MTBers have been out. I am just passing this info on to all so we may have one decent area to ride that is in decent shape. Thanks, and sorry for the long story.

I was down there 3/12 and 3/13 but with a bike. I stayed off of the blue trail cause that tends to be the nastiest but rode all the other trails and they were in real good shape.

See ya
