Second post, first was in the age poll, to which DaveG replied "Now THAT's old :)".
I'll be 59 in October, had triple bypass in 2004, sat on the couch since, and was recently diagnosed with PAD in my right leg. Major blockage between hip and knee. I was given the choice of exercise, giving angioplasty/stenting a try, or bypass the blockage. Since I'm running short of "extra veins" in my body exercise won out. The doctor wanting walking, which bores me to death. I read several articles where biking has also helped when the biker used clipless pedals. So my Trek4300 which I have ridden 3 times now, has clipless pedals and I have MTB shoes.
My first ride at Wakefield was last Saturday just to see what I could do. Well I managed to go from the recycle containers down the road to the balls parks, around that parking lot once and then along the path heading towards the football/soccer field. The top of my thighs just above the knee felt like they were on fire. OK it's probably lactic acid building up, since I'm pretty sure my blood's not carrying a lot of O at the current time. I did the ride, scream in pain, rest, and ride again several times. Sunday my wife and I went back to walk some of the trails before I rode them. I do believe as we pulled up SG was unloading her bike. We walked the trails most in the power line area. I went back with my bike on Mondays and did the same ride, pain, rest, ride for an hour.
I have some questions so I thought I might drop by Wakefield tonight before the ride and meet some folks.
